Guest guest
just realized it could be a deviated septum? really getting a little scared now. > i had upper jaw surgery 7 days ago. so far recovery is going pretty > good. but i was wondering if anyone is having a similar problem to > mine? > > not exactly sure of the medical term here, but its the thing inside > your nose that seperates your nostrils, it is folded just a little.. > making my left nostril smaller than my right one. > > maybe when he moved my upper jaw up... it kind of bowed it. > > i really hope this makes sense. anyone else experience this? if so > does it go away? Guest guest
mark, i hate to break it to you but it sounds like you're talking about your septum and it sounds like it might have gotten deviated during the surgery. My septum was already deviated pre-op so it couldn't bow out much more. Are you having trouble breathing? If so then you might have to go in for a second surgery called septoplasty to restraighten it. , another board member just had it done. It;s a much simpler surgery as in you're in and out of the hospital quickly. Then again you can also live with your deviation as I have for quite some time. Check with your doctor however, it might just be residual swelling which for your sake i hope it is. Guest guest
thanks for the reply sara.. yeah ive come to the conclusion its a deviated septum. i am only having trouble breathing through my left nostril.. it seems about 70% blocked... its good to know that its a fairly easy procedure to fix it. i dont think i would want to live with this forever.. like you said, maybe it could be swelling.. if it improved to 40% i would live with it.. just thinking out loud.. thanks! > > i had upper jaw surgery 7 days ago. so far recovery is going pretty > > good. but i was wondering if anyone is having a similar problem to > > mine? > > > > not exactly sure of the medical term here, but its the thing inside > > your nose that seperates your nostrils, it is folded just a little.. > > making my left nostril smaller than my right one. > > > > maybe when he moved my upper jaw up... it kind of bowed it. > > > > i really hope this makes sense. anyone else experience this? if so > > does it go away? Guest guest
no worries mike. bear in mind that you are still very congested from the surgery. I asked my OS about it today and he said that the upper really affects your sinuses a lot (mine have been killing me hence the question) and he said that it can take about a month before the whole breathing area gets back to normal. anyway, if you want more info on septoplasty take a look at messages from yesterday night. I posted a useful website especially on septoplasty. The title of the message was Useful info on Septoplasty I think. My father had a septoplasty a few years back and he was in and out of the hospital in about 2 hours. He only had to walk around for a splint for about a week but he says that it really was no hassle. Good luck, Sara > > > i had upper jaw surgery 7 days ago. so far recovery is going > pretty > > > good. but i was wondering if anyone is having a similar problem > to > > > mine? > > > > > > not exactly sure of the medical term here, but its the thing > inside > > > your nose that seperates your nostrils, it is folded just a > little.. > > > making my left nostril smaller than my right one. > > > > > > maybe when he moved my upper jaw up... it kind of bowed it. > > > > > > i really hope this makes sense. anyone else experience this? if > so > > > does it go away? Guest guest
yeah, i was kind of having a panic attack for a minute there, did some research, and realized its not that big of a deal. just a little sick of surgery right now. im going to see my OS in the morning, we will see what he says. thanks sara > > > > i had upper jaw surgery 7 days ago. so far recovery is going > > pretty > > > > good. but i was wondering if anyone is having a similar > problem > > to > > > > mine? > > > > > > > > not exactly sure of the medical term here, but its the thing > > inside > > > > your nose that seperates your nostrils, it is folded just a > > little.. > > > > making my left nostril smaller than my right one. > > > > > > > > maybe when he moved my upper jaw up... it kind of bowed it. > > > > > > > > i really hope this makes sense. anyone else experience this? > if > > so > > > > does it go away? Guest guest
I had the exact same problem. I am 15 days post-op, and I got a deviated septum from the surgery. It caused me not to be able to breathe out of my left nostril at all. My nose was also noticibly crooked after surgery, as if it had been broken. My surgeon knew right away (2nd day) that it may need to be fixed, and when I went back for my 1 wk post op appt we scheduled a septoplasty. I had that done on Saturday, and I'm doing well now. My left nostril is still a wee bit smaller than my right, but I can breathe now, and that's what's important. Hope I helped some! > i had upper jaw surgery 7 days ago. so far recovery is going pretty > good. but i was wondering if anyone is having a similar problem to > mine? > > not exactly sure of the medical term here, but its the thing inside > your nose that seperates your nostrils, it is folded just a little.. > making my left nostril smaller than my right one. > > maybe when he moved my upper jaw up... it kind of bowed it. > > i really hope this makes sense. anyone else experience this? if so > does it go away?
