I also like this site for recipes but not all these recipes are SCD - you have to know what is and isn't (like subbing honey for agave). So not good for a beginner.

I'd love to see the final list posted in the files folder!

Joanna, I know the SCD Foodlady's cookbook isn't only scd. There are a couple recipies that contain cocoa and that is illegal on the diet. If your putting resources together check with Marilyn to see what she wants included since alot of newbies will be checking it out. Katy

I noticed the Food Lady uses chocolate and flax seeds in some of her recipes.

Those are both SCD illegal. I don't understand how someone, just because they've

been on the diet for 5 years and can tolerate a few illegals, can call their

site and SCD site without any disclaimers on illegal items. This totally

aggravates me.

" and even SCD food items.. can be ordered that will assist those following the

She actually does have a disclaimer about the chocolate:Although regular, sweetened chocolate is not listed as one of the approved SCD dietary substances, I have made use of un-sweetened chocolate or cocoa in all items containing chocolate.  Some doctors have permitted limited consumption of un-sweetened chocolate or cocoa for their SCD patients as they feel it will not interfere with the functionality of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and can in fact contribute valuable anti-oxidants.  Consumption of chocolate in any form should be discussed with your doctor before introducing any deviations from the original Specific Carbohydrate Diet. You are advised to take this into consideration when ordering any items containing chocolate

Given my own experiences testing out chocolate, I would never sell food or recipes labelled SCD with that ingredient. Even if it were legal, it's one of those foods that does affect your system as a stimulant, and for most on SCD this is not good.

The flax seeds she doesn't seem to have a disclaimer about and I'm wondering if because they are seeds she thinks they are legal. Flax seeds are very, very different from other seeds such as sunflower or sesame. When you grind up sunflower or sesame, you get an oily consistency like with nuts. When you grind flax seeds they tend to be dry then you add water and it forms a gummy mixture.

I wonder if anyone has tried to contact her to ask her to put a disclaimer about flax seeds too?

I'm not a big fan of searching for things on websites. That disclaimer should be

on every product she has that has an illegal in it if she's going to put the SCD

seal of approval on them. It's just an aggravation to me because I've tried so

hard to stay SCD and have had setbacks because of hidden illegals.

On her site, I went straight to the products, read the intro stuff until I got

bored, and never saw that. It in no way stands out from what else is on the

site. However, after looking again, I do see the disclaimer. She really should

pull those items out and put them in a non-SCD food category. Or, put the

disclaimer in red bold and underlined with blinking lights around it.

*Given my own experiences testing out chocolate, I would never sell food or

Funny since you have to click the link called Purchase SCD Food Items.

Oh this part is my own writing about what I would do if I was selling SCD food Items, which I'm not..

Food Lady doesn't say anything about her own experiences with it..Kat

I'm

also a fairly new to SCD. I found the

following site address to have the most comprehensive information about the

diet, all in one place:

www.pecanbread.org

or www.peaanbread.com

Open

all of the tabs and you'll have a great resource for learning about the

diet. Keep in mind that this site is

"geared towards children", but the principals, etc. work for

adults as well.

Best

of luck,

Janet

ly, because of her use of cocoa powder, which new comers won't be

aware is SCD-illegal, I can't recommend Food Lady. Otherwise, nice stuff,

BUT....!

I really don't care what some doctor who claims about allowing chocolate.

We've seen too many so-called experts on SCD who prescribe junk that

isn't SCD-legal, and claim it won't matter, but it DOES.

Not only that, but she uses flax seeds, and they, too are

illegal.

I would prefer that she not be listed on a list in the BTVC-SCD

library.

COCOA is not allowed.

COCOA BUTTER, the pure fat from the cocoa bean is legal.

No problem! Those are very valid points- I will take " food lady " off.

Thanks for everyone's responses! I was going for a list of sources to buy stuff

from, but due to the overwhelming response, I will add some stuff over the

weekend and throw it back at ya'll one more time.

Then I can give Marilyn the word file and if she OKs it, she can put it in the

files! Cool!

Here are a few more sites:

http://kenya-portals.com/colitis/ - has a lot of tips and posts that Elaine

wrote

http://www.cookingforceliacscolitiscrohnsandibs.com/index.php

I have about 5 bajillion SCD recipe blogs I visit, but I'm hesitant about

whether to post them, due to some having non-SCD related info (like gluten free

stuff) or recommendations for products that aren't officially SCD legal. There

are some great recipes, but it's possible newbies might get confused.
