Just curious why you are unable to look in the files yourself?

Things are in the files because that means everyone has

access to them without asking others to post.

Just curious why you are unable to look in the files yourself?Mara, I think was asking if somebody could put the recipes in the files section SO she could look at them. Not post the recipes that are IN the files section to the group. I don't think there are chicken soup/stock recipes in the files yet. I'm not .. but I've got a good guess as to why accessing the files could be difficult for some. If you receive group messages via email, it's easy to forget your yahoo login and password and you have to have them in order to access the files section of your groups.

, from your message below (and the yahoo group member's list) it looks like your yahoo user name is "sjgramenz" If you click on the "Visit Your Group" link at the bottom of this email and enter that user name, there should be a "forgot password" link somewhere on that page that would allow you to access the group's files

Also, a problem I've noticed since I'm on a tiny mini netbook.  I do not have word on it so for instance, when I try to pull up an uploaded file, it is all weird.  The plain text files are ok.  I think I was able to get a word file by (can't remember exactly) but maybe converting to google documents.  Just a thought.  I'll go in and try to get into each one of them even though I'm probably one of the few without word!

There's several free programs that allow you to work with word, excel, etc. I believe open office is the most popular. Maybe that would resolve the issue for you

Even better, a PDF. I can't access the files at all. There is a really good

program I use called CutePDFWriter. It's a free program that you can use to

" print " your files to PDF (If you've ever used Adobe Standard/Pro to do this

you'll understand) when you choose the printer, it asks you to save the file in

PDF format somewhere. I think Adobe Reader is more common than Office or Google

Docs..

Most word processors should be able to read RTF files. They're sort plain

text with a small amount of formatting.

How do you do on HTML files?

Yes, I have that. Trouble is, there have been people in the past who have

complained about not being able to open PDF files.

PDFs are the standard in documents though Adobe Reader just reads PDFs. How

would anyone be able to web research without it? HAHA /end rant

Windows 7 is funny in what it allows you to open.

OpenOffice.org is another free program that works ok at opening Word and Excel

files and it's super user friendly like Microsoft Office.

Too bad Yahoo Groups doesn't have an option to upload the file as a web page.

Kind of like how pecanbread's recipes open in a web page. That would solve

everything!!!!

There are tons of ways to do things, I'm just lazy at home.

Actually, one CAN upload an HTML (web) page -- which is what I just did

with the Chicken Broth recipe and the TSA file.
