Sara,

I completely understand how you feel... you're ready to start your

life, which has essentially been " on hold " since day one. The only

thing that has gotten me through that is firmly believing that

everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it doesn't help get

through the really tough times, but it does work most of the time!

I'm 30, still in school, and I feel like my Life has not yet begun.

Circumstances held me in undergrad for 6 years when I was aiming for

3, then I had to apply 3 times before getting accepted to vet

school. The entire time I felt like I couldn't do anything to

solidify who I was or where I am meant to be. I don't know where I'm

going to end up - and I won't know that until I'm finished with

school in 2 more years. I push people away, avoid dating, etc.

simply because the likelihood of them being there wherever I land at

the end of this ride is slim to none.

I tried getting my teeth fixed 3 times before, but for one reason or

another things didn't work out. I became frustrated, even more self-

conscious, and depressed. Now I am so glad those previous times

didn't work out. I wouldn't have had the wonderful guidance of my

very kind and knowledgable OD, I would never have taken the avenue of

surgery to properly correct my malalignment, and I wouldn't have had

the resources like this group to get me through any of it!

Seems that's the way I look at everything... not getting accepted to

vet school right away has given me 3 years of various experiences so

valuable and amazing, I know I will be a 500-times better vet because

of it!

I know everything will work out for you! Unfortunately, we sometimes

can't see a rainbow until after a storm!

Thanks for understanding Kate and for sharing your own frustrating

experience. I also tried to get my teeth and jaw fixed three times

prior to this time around and I must say, I also feel that it's fate

that it went as it did because otherwise I wouldn't have found my

star Ortho and Oral Surgeon team:-)

Sara,

Wouldn't that be amazing if all three of us were completely finished

having metal in our mouths for the New Year?!?! Oh, I'm hoping and

praying for that!!!

Now then, about the future ... I don't know if you're a person of

faith or belief in a higher power, and frankly, I'm not sure if I am

half of the time - but I have to believe that things happen in such a

way as they are supposed to. We don't have more than we can handle

(even if we don't think we can at the time) and our lives move in the

exact direction they are supposed to (even if we feel lost

sometimes). My advice would be - support those around you and

celebrate their successes ... but do not let them diminish yours!

You may not be doing exactly what you thought you'd be doing at this

stage in your life - but most of us aren't. This is your life's

plan. You need to take care of yourself first - and then you can

focus on your next accomplishment - a new job or a great vacation ...

or who knows ... by that time it may be something all together

different. Sorry, the Mother in me is coming out and I just want to

give you a big HUG!! :)

Regarding my post surgery appointments: one week, two weeks

(tomorrow), four weeks, six weeks and then eight weeks to have my

wires cut (yay!) then a follow up in two weeks, surgical wire removal

in another week and my " last " follow up a week later! It's a lot.

But, at least I have them all lined up and made now - so I can work

around them and focus on my goals. :)

Ok, so the weekend is almost over. I hope you are enjoying the last

bits of it!

Many happy thoughts,

Carol
