Guest guest
Hi, My surgery was scheduled about 6 weeks in advance. Your surgery will probably be scheduled at least a month in advance to allow you time to complete physical, pre-op appt at hospital, labwork, possible blood donation, surgical wires/hooks put on, molds made, etc. Of course scheduling also depends on your hospital and surgeons schedule. You may want to call your insurance company to see if they received your pre-authorization request from your OS. I called my insurance company about a month after it was sent in and they stated they didn't receive it yet. They gave me a fax number where it could be sent which I gave to my OS. After this it only was a matter of less than a week before my OS received the okay for the authorization. Hope this helps! --Caboose > My doctor said that he planned to have the surgery around early august > and they sent out the insurance pre-authorization about a month ago... > > however, I haven't heard back from them yet... should I be worried? > > How long before your surgeries did you guys have urs scheduled? > > thanks
Guest guest
What insurance do you have? Also, on the back of your card there should be a number to either customer service or a pre-authorization line. I have been harrassing the poor pre-authorization people, but as of Thursday, I found out that it should be 48-72 hours, so I will call again on Monday and Tuesday. I am also having my surgery around that time - August 12th or 19th depending on pre-authorization and/or hospital availability. Don't be afraid to call your insurance company, sometimes you have to harrass them to get results. Guest guest
For sure, I'd be calling my ortho, my surgeon and asking... At least of the staff. Although my guy is indeed busy, and was working only in one hospital at the time (the others had not allowed him to choose the anesthesia team, so he said " goodbye " to them), I was able to schedule for May, the first time, about a month out, best I remember. When I saw my ortho getting antsy about the early May deadline, I asked whether he'd rather I wait another month. He almost said, " Whew! " I swear. He told me to reschedule for June, which I did. I wanted the first thing in the morning -- I have a tough time sitting in hospitals with not even a drop of water and waiting for something I'm anxious about, so I had to wait until June 26. This was in 2002, and it may be different now that these procedures are better known and more widely practiced. I was surprised, actually, that I could get in so soon, given that many people schedule for summertime, when school's out, and I could have done it any time of the year. I was, however, very grateful to get it over and done with, when my mouth was ready. I'd rather at least know I had a slot in the hospital book, and on my surgeon's, and wait for a month or more, than be at the mercies of fickle scheduling... But that's just me.
