Guest guest
DO u know if you'll be wired or banded? Usually people who are wired have to be on a liquid diet for longer also because it is harder to get non-liquid through the wire. The best person to ask would be your surgeon who will most likely have strict instructions for what you can or cannot eat during the first week. I am being banded shut and plan to eat only liquids the first week. Sara > Im having upper only sugeron sometime next month hopefully(still > working with insurance). Guest guest
I will be banded after my surgery June 14th and the surgeon told me yesterday that I will have to wait 2 weeks before I can start trying to slurp food without chewing (like pastas). I dont know if that includes mashed potatoes or not yet. I will let you know when I find out more about what i can and cant have. > Im having upper only sugeron sometime next month hopefully(still > working with insurance). Guest guest
Hey, I'm not sure exactly what you had done, but I just had surgery 2 weeks ago and within the first week I was eating mashed potatoes and pureed fish with no problem... but it's really just what you're comfortable with. - > > Im having upper only sugeron sometime next month hopefully(still > > working with insurance). Guest guest
It seems everyone has had a slightly different experience with this. Your surgeon may have different rules as well. Mine told me I could eat whatever I wanted, as long as I didn't chew (I had upper/lower/genio). I was only eating blended solid foods (mashed potatoes, meat, corn, etc.) by the 6th day, immediately after my tight bands were replaced with looser ones which I was allowed to remove during meals. I was lucky enough not to have any problems opening my mouth, although it still took a good hour to chow down a meal. But for the first 4-5 days it's just too awkward and very difficult. You might also have a sore throat for the first few days, so you'll welcome the liquids. Yann > Im having upper only sugeron sometime next month hopefully(still > working with insurance). Guest guest
, Mashed potatoes and pureed fish sounds wonderful. Being wired shut - those things are simply not an option for me. Being wired shut, usually means a completely liquid diet. Glad things are going well for you, Carol > > > Im having upper only sugeron sometime next month hopefully (still > > > working with insurance). Guest guest
Hey Carol, the mashed potatoes may be doable for you. I'm wired shut as well and i've learned from Sara to mash up potatoes and throw it in a blender with lots of milk to thin it out and then you're all good. I like to add some real chicken broth and spices depending on what kinda taste i'm going for. Usually, there are spaces large enough to let all that yummy stuff pass through. Guest guest
Derrick, Thanks ... I think I might try that. I'm going a little stir crazy with the same stuff day after day. I need to get a bit braver and start expanding my menu. I'm going shopping today. I'll put instant mashed potatoes on my list ... and let you know how it goes! Thanks again, Carol
& gt; & gt; > & gt; Hi - I am about 1 1/2 weeks post op and I have strictly been > on
& gt;an
& gt; & gt; all liquid diet.
