Guest guest
Okay, so here's my problem. I'm afraid to eat. The first day I vomited twice, so I'm afraid it will happen again. I try to take sips of water as often as I can, but I'm only managing about 12 ounces. I did get most of an Ensure down. I am also afraid of choking. It's awful to cough when your teeth are banded. I had such a miserable second day. I slept most of the time just so the day would be over soon. My neck was so swollen that I couldn't turn my head. I just woke up to day three and I feel better. Today I'm supposed to apply heat to my jaw, so I hope it gets the swelling down. I need to figure out how to brush my teeth. Oh, I can't wait until this is over! Guest guest
Hi, I am now 8 Days Post Op, and here is my advice to you. Drink as much as you can. You don't want to get dehyrdrated. I also vomited twice my first night, but I vomited pure blood because I guess I swallowed a lot of it during the surgery. I was afraid to drink too, and I wouldn't drink, so they kept me in the hospital a second night to make sure I don't become dehydrated. When drinking, I choked the first couple of days too. Just take your time and sip slowly. You will get the hang of it soon. For me, and probably most everyone, the second and third days were the worst. Those were the days I was most swollen. By the 5th day, the swelling had started to come down a little, and I could finally sit up and walk around without feeling dizzy or out of breath. So, just make it passed these next couple of days and soon you will start to feel better. I am also having trouble brushing my teeth. I tried once, but it is hard! It is hard to get your teeth as clean as you want them without hitting any stitches or anything. My OS has me rinse my mouth with hydrogen peroxide after each meal. It's kind of gross, but it should help to keep infections out of your mouth. Hope this helps a little. Now, I have a question for those who have been through this surgery. About how long was it before you began sleeping laying down again. I've been sleeping in my recliner or in my bed with a bunch of pillows propping me up and it is just so uncomfortable. I have not received more than 3 hours or sleep for the past week. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. > Okay, so here's my problem. I'm afraid to eat. Guest guest
Hi Patty! I don't blame you for being afraid. I was also afraid to eat in case of vomiting. I took Gravol for the first few days until the nausea left. You can crush it up and put it in a small amout of juice. It worked really well for me. It is important that you do eat. You need the calories for energy and healing. Good luck! Fay > Okay, so here's my problem. I'm afraid to eat. The first day I vomited > twice, so I'm afraid it will happen again. Guest guest
Food is medicine, and so is water. Food supports the healing, and water is necessary to keep your body hydrated and flush away the swelling and chemicals in your system. So push yourself to do both. Ensure is fine. So are soups, smoothies, anything else you can get in there. But " most of an Ensure " isn't nearly enough. You need more than one! Cammie > Okay, so here's my problem. I'm afraid to eat.
