Guest guest
I am 10 days post-op and can open my mouth a very little bit. I am willing to try and get a pill down instead of the awful liquid meds! The problem is, I can't really drink from a glass to get a pill down because my lips are so numb and my chin is (of course) numb. How long will this be numb? I know it's different for everyone, but I thought I'd see where everyone else is at. Things are getting better everyday it seems. --
Guest guest
, Yes, it's different for everyone, for sure. I don't recall my chin or lower lip every being numb. My upper lip is still numb, 3 weeks post- op, along with the area between my upper lip and my nose, the lower part of my nose, parts of my cheeks and my lower eyelids. I'm wired for 5 more weeks. Wish I could open my mouth. I've been taking pills the last couple of days, mashing them up and drinking them in juice or water or tea. Yuck! Hang in there! Better every day! Guest guest
Hi , My lower lip and chin have slowly started awakening since around week 6-7. I'm on week 8 now and all I can say is I wish it was still numb! I'm getting shocks and sharp stabs in my teeth all day long. Brushing has become so uncomfortable, I just tightly grip the corner of my bathroom counter with one hand and brush with the other to get it over with. And it's still about 97% numb! Despite the discomfort, I'm still happy that the feeling is finally coming back... whenever I touch a numb part, it sends a shock to all the other nerves connected to it. My OS said all this is normal and that my nerves have simply shifted to a hyper-active state. Anyway, I guess I'm just trying to say to be patient and enjoy the numbness while it lasts. My OS said my nerves are right on cue.. so I'd expect strange new sensations around the 6-8 week mark for the average person. Yann > I am 10 days post-op and can open my mouth a very little bit. Guest guest
You might want to try practicing with a plastic cup. It might take you a few days to drink out of a glass without spilling, but you'll manage. But swallowing a pill might not be as easy as you might think if your splinted. I managed to do it once or twice, but I eventually resorted to pill mashing until my splint was out. I just couldn't get myself to swallow it whole.
