Guest guest
No, that's legal.Kim uses it, for example. See if it helps. MaraMy new GI (who is fantastic and loves SCD) asked me to take Mirilax on days when I have C. Isn't that illegal? Is that illegal?I do want to get "normalized" just don't want to get out of balance. Thoughts?
Guest guest
You are lucky to have such a GI. You can also use a prune nectar recipe from legal prune juice as well. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation.htm Whatever you are more comfortable with. Guest guest
Miralax is OK to use on SCD. Just contains one ingredient, polyethylene glycol, which is an ingredient found in a lot of medications and supplements. Every time I buy a bottle I check the ingredient list for non-active ingredients, and so far, nothing illegal has been included. I've been using Miralax daily for about seven years. I periodically stop using it, hoping I don't need it any more. But I have functional digestive disorders that affect digestive motility, so I continue to need it. I also do some other things that help with constipation, such as supplementing magnesium, eating a few prunes every few days. I was on Zelnorm before it was pulled from the market, so in many ways time on SCD has really helped since I'm coping without the motility med. Not everyone tolerates Miralax, but most do. It is an osmotic laxative, so is safe to use over the long term. I also continue to check regularly for any clinical trials on long-term use of Miralax. The only impact I've noticed, other than the positive one of helping my digestion move better, is that I have to boost my electrolytes often. But I'm not sure how much of that is because of using Miralax, or because of my neuropathies. I'm always on the lookout for research to indicate this could be a side-effect to Miralax use. I'd still use Miralax, but at least I could warn people to boost their electrolytes more often. [grin] Kim M. Guest guest
I saw one study that tracked people using it for 6 years, but nothing beyond that.I need to use it also and for similar reasons. The prune juice/orange juice protocol didn't work for me.So far it's working well for me. --
Guest guest
You might want to ask your doc for Kristalose (powdered lactulose). It is not a chlorinated hydrocarbon like Miralax. As far as the non-drug route, Gillham's Natural Calm (at health food stores) works well. For a clean out, do 3 tsp every 2 hours until you get the desired result. Good luck. > > I saw one study that tracked people using it for 6 years, but nothing beyond > that. > > I need to use it also and for similar reasons. Guest guest
Thanks, but Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide. Not sure that it's SCD legal. Disaccharides are not SCD legal, so if someone is taking that, they're defeating the purpose of SCD. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
True, I thought about last night. I even think Miralax is a disaccharide(??), but with chlorines added. For what it is worth, when my son was in the hospital with a bowel obstruction, the GI doc ran a blodd test (d-lactate??? can't remeber the exact name), but it was to measure the amount of breakdown of of this class of osmotics. He stated that if your flora is way off, the bacteria can break down the unbreakdownable and cause neurological sysmptoms. I know that doesn't actually address SCD, but is does speak to the fact that your gut bugs are capabale of much more decomposition than the enzymes produced by the human GI tract... > > > > > > I saw one study that tracked people using it for 6 years, but nothing > > beyond > > > that. > > > > > > I need to use it also and for similar reasons.
