I use dry wine every once in a while but probably shouldn't. Remember

if you're a yeast person that the " DEFINITION " of wine is yeast! I

have at least one " fundamentalist SCD " friend who, I can tell, thinks

I'm doing it all wrong by allowing periodic infraction like this. I

suppose that if I didn't have problems w/ all probiotics and thought I

was getting a lot better by being totally legalistic I could make

myself do it but my philosophy is " Ya gotta live... "

Takes all kinds to make a world, I suppose.

Dry wine is not SCD legal, so using the occasional bit of dry wine is not

an SCD infraction.

I'm not sure what you mean by a " fundamentalist SCD " friend,

but I can tell you that Elaine was one of the most pragmatic people I've

ever met. That's why I take her strictures as absolute. Why I advocate

" make your own. "

In the early days on SCD, I tried a brand of canned tomatoes which some

people said was okay because I was sick to death of peeling and seeding

tomatoes for sauce. I reacted badly to it. I went back to peeling

tomatoes.

I've done that with a bunch of things. Funny situation, though. It's

taken me years. NOW I could tolerate some of the canned stuff, like

tomatoes, and don't WANT to for the most part! Because I like fresh

food!

Any more than it's true that the definition of SCD yogurt is lactose. The sugar content in grapes is the CATALYST for the fermentation process that turns them into wine, but in dry wines the sugar gets consumed in the process -- that's why they're "dry," meaning no sugar content. That is a different process than the one which makes beer, which does require actual yeast.Using dry wine is not an "infraction" -- though, as with pretty much all other foods (and wine is more a food than a drink, actually), it will effect different people differently. n-- Now available.
