From my perspective the issue isn't that I'm done LOSING, it's that I want to

make sure I'm not GAINING. For that first 18 months (or less) the issue with

the scale IS losing. But afterwards, the trouble is the gain that can sneak

up and bite you.

I didn't have a scale for the first 8 weeks, and from then on I have only

weighed myself once a week, on Saturday morning. But lately, I tend to forget

to get on the scale because I'm pretty much done losing.

Oh, I know what you mean. That's why I try to remember to weigh myself, so I

know I'm doing ok. I know my clothes will tell me eventually, but I want to

know before it gets to that point. But I think every other week should be ok,

for me.

Hi Beth,

This is certainly true for me. Weighing daily is probably more important

for me now than it was when I was still losing. I would so much rather

take off 2 or 3 lbs now than 10 or 12 lbs later.

To me, this is using fear to a great advantage. I don't stress and worry

and obsess about gaining weight, and one of the reasons I don't is BECAUSE I

weigh every day. If I don't keep the weight off, what was the point of

losing it?

Amen, Sister...Amen!

I streak to my doctor's scale in the basement every morning for over

2 years now. Very seldom do I miss a day.

I got fat avoiding the scale...playing the games...never again.

For me, the clothing thing didn't work when I was MO and gaining

weight. I just " stopped " wearing the things that were too tight and then ended

up

buying new (bigger) clothes when I had an occasion where I NEEDED something to

wear. Then, I'd go on my merry way, wearing the new bigger clothes, until

the cycle repeated itself. So I know that I can't depend on clothes -- just

doesn't work for me.

In fact, I have one pair of shorts even now that I " avoid " because

they are more snug than I care to admit. I've been hovering about 2 to 3 pounds

over my lowest weight (when I bought them) and they just don't fit quite right

anymore. I just shove them in the back of the drawer and head to the laundry

room if they're the only pair left in the drawer.

I have to use the scale. I have five pounds that I have allowed for

" bouncing, " though in truth, I panic when it gets to the four pound mark.

Doesn't make for necessarily a good day or a bad day mood wise, but does dictate

how I have to eat for a few days. When the weight is down, then I relax a bit.

I don't know if this will work for me long term or not. Right now, my

big fear is that I have quit exercising (for lots of reasons, none of which

are very good) and I have become uninterested in it. I was diligent about it

for so long and credited it with a big part of my success. I'm somewhat scared

by my attitude that since I'm still pretty much maintaining my weight that it

" doesn't make that much difference " if I exercise or not. I never did

exercise for the health benefits - I always saw it as a means to lose weight or

maintain. I know, wrong attitude to have.

I am planning on walking tonight and doing my shoulder rehab

exercises.

By the time my clothes get a bit snug I would be 10 lbs over goal.

It hides in my legs and butt. I wear skirts, dresses and jackets to

work...loose jeans and sweats around the house. It would be way too

much guilt, panic and fear to deal with. Just writing about a 10 lb

bounce-back puts sweat on my brow!

I would rather deal with a bad day because of the 3 lbs and know

that 3 lbs can be dealt with swiftly with a protein fast or very low

carb day (about the extent of my discipline!). Maybe someday when I

grow up I can feel a bit more relaxed about things.

But...for now at 2+ years out...errr....excuse me while I streak to

the scale :)

Really? And all this time I thought I got fat by eating too much. And now you

tell me it was because I wasn't getting on the scale every day? Amazing.

Thanks Judy. I really had to laugh. I am one of those people who can't

weigh everyday. I get very obsessive about the numbers. I tend to cheat

more depending on what the scale says. Consequently I only weigh about

once a month. I have discovered it is a more accurate record anyway. Of

course this is what works for me, it doesn't necessarily work for

everyone.
