Guest guest
Hi Melannie, What she was told is very possible from what I understand. I had my surgery at St. Charity in Cleveland, Ohio, had my surgery on Friday morning and came home Monday morning. I had no drains, no staples. I was not required to be on any special diet prior to surgery except that I had signed a contract not to gain any weight from my first consultation with the doctor. So what your mom was told does sound right. We have to remember that every doctor is different in what they tell their patients. Good luck and congratulations on your weight loss. Looks like you've done quite well yourself. Laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/238/
Guest guest
I think this surgery is still evolving, when I first went for my seminar my doctor said you COULD lose 10 pounds before surgery and eat anything you wanted until 12 am day of surgery. Ten months later it was 2 weeks on a semi liquid diet, liquid diet the day before. It seems surgery is easier for both you and the surgeon if you do the liquid diet before the surgery and it also shows your committment. I also did not have any drains and just little pieces of tape over my incision (8 of them) when I went home. Pat in RI > Hi Melannie, > What she was told is very possible from what I understand. I also think that the liquid diet is to shrink the liver pre-op that way it gives the doctor more room to work in there since it is a lap procedure. Just to show the differences (he he), my fiance had an open RNY and he was not on any diet pre-op. He did cut back on his own though and was down about 13 pre-op.
