Guest guest
Hello friends and fellow skinny minnies (as my granddaughter called me today) I feel it important to relate an incident that has been going on in my body recently and forewarn others who may have the same reaction. I had been itching on my hands and arms and around my nose for some time and then it started gradually to spread to my torso, head, extremities and especially bad on my thighs. I discontinued my soap products, stop using fabric softener and all the other sensible things to do. The itching was becoming so bad and the rash spreading so quickly that I finally got in to see my primary physician who said it had to be a drug reaction. The only drug I was taking was effoxor, 75 mg. and she didn't think that could be it because I have taken it for over 5 years. she gave me a B-12 shot because I told her I was not good at taking my pills (I know, I know) just in case it had something to do with the rash. The dermatologist could not get me in until next week and I was seriously going crazy with itching or yawning from taking antimissiles to keep from scratching. Yesterday, I was teaching a class on life story writing and one of the participants noticed my arms and asked me if I was having a drug reaction. I told her the saga and she said that the same thing had happened to her and the culprit was effexor, even though she had taken it for a long time. She said she had endured months and months of hell until she stopped the medication on her own, since her doctor didn't think it was effexor, as the literature did not say that it caused a rash. I was so happy to have a solution presented to me, that I kissed her on the cheek. My question is....I know I have heard (read) some of you say that you are also taking this medication. How many others out there could be having a painful and irritating rash and not know the cause of it? How does one go about letting the drug company know about this or do they even care? Even though this was not a life threatening situation, it certainly was a life altering one. It was extremely uncomfortable and had an effect on my energy, productivity and attitude. Hopefully, this heads-up can save someone else the same anguish. Judy, That's really interesting. My husband has had bouts of itching and rashes on his arms and legs. He has been to the dermatologist also and nothing helps. He takes effexor 75 also and did stop it for a while and has started taking it again and has been getting some itching and rashes again. If it starts up bad again I'll have him bring it up with the doctor. If you find out how to notify the drug company please let me know. This is something that should be listed in their side effects!
