Guest guest
, You've been unwired for how long now? How many bands do you have? Are they super tight? I'm going to see my Surgeon tomorrow morning and his " intention " is to unwire me and take out my splint. I'm excited and nervous in equal proportions. He said at my last appointment that I should be opening and closing my mouth normally in a day or two. I told him that he's crazy. Time will tell. Are you doing any jaw exercises to get your muscles back in shape? Do you see noticable improvement regarding your opening and closing abilities since you were unwired? I apologize for all the questions. Like I said ... I'm nervous. Yes ... remember it could be worse! Take that from one who has been wired and splinted for two entire months! I hope all is well, otherwise. Take care and thanks in advance for any information you can share, Carol > I had my 2nd visit with the OD today since being unwired. Guest guest
Your post sounds like me! I'm at ten weeks post op, I can only open two-fingers wide, and my back teeth still don't touch. I keep hoping to wake up and have that perfect bite, and I dread the thought of xxx more months in braces. Good luck with your bite, and thanks for sharing! Guest guest
Carol I have been unwired since June 13th, so this is going on my 3rd week. At 1st, the OS put 2 bands on me just to make sure that there was no relapse. That lasted for about a week. Once he released me to my OD, I was free of bands for 2 weeks. Not that I could really enjoy it because I was very sore just from being unwired, and having my joints get used to moving again. My movement is pretty normal, but I just can't open very wide. That is the only bad part. I still have a bit of swelling, and the more I talk, the worse it is. After yesterday, I am really swollen, and in a great deal of pain. I could barely sleep last night. Not only was I sore from them wrenching on my teeth at the OD, but the new rubber bands to pull my teeth together are causing excruciating pain. I would love to take them out, but that would just slow down my treatment time. I want these braces off!!! I am not doing any exercises yet, cuz the OS said that I wasn't ready for them just yet. He wanted to see what nature would do naturally. I think he may give me some when I go back on July 11th. I'll let you know what happens. > > I had my 2nd visit with the OD today since being unwired. Guest guest
, Thanks so much for all your information. I've been meaning to start a post with information regarding my last visit (which included being unwired, unsplinted, and banded) but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have three bands: triangle, square, triangle. They are not very tight. I'm supposed to keep them on at least 12 hours a day and can take them off to eat mush and to brush. Had my first real food yesterday in two months! It was wonderful. I haven't seem my Orthodontist yet. I'm not looking forward to it! I know what you mean about being sore! It's really strange ... but I have been more sore in the last 1 1/2 days than I was in the last 1 1/2 weeks. <shrug> I can open a lot more than I thought I'd be able to - at least enough for most of a spoon and for my toothbrush. It's just REALLY nice to hear my own voice - to speak and be understood. I hope things start going a bit easier for you. Keep me posted, if you can. Take care, Carol > > > I had my 2nd visit with the OD today since being unwired. He > didn't > > > go any easier on me this time than he did last time.
