Guest guest
I've been building lists as things occur to me and as I see them suggested on here or other resources. Thought I'd share them in case they're of use to any of you. And a big THANKS to everyone who has contributed their wisdom and ideas! Luna THINGS TO HAVE/DO FOR SURGERY Ice packs - at least two Round cotton pads - keep in ice water Zip N Squeeze Jaw wrap Heating pad Lounge pillow Lots of pillows iPod w/audio books Notepad or whiteboard Books/movies Q-tips Acne medication Hair clips Extra pajamas Lip balm Anti-nausea med (Pepto?) Small notebook and pencil/pen Pictures of kitties, cabin, happy things Easy reading - magazines, top 10 lists, humor Clear liquids for first 24 hours - broth, soda, juice, soymilk Flexible straws Concealer makeup Eye and nose drops Ziploc bags for ice Gly-Oxide/hydrogen peroxide Decongestant Pillowcases Neckroll Children's toothbrush Button-down shirt that can get messy Kleenex Tylenol PM, other pain meds Handheld blender? SOFT FOODS Soup/broth - esp. bean soup Tofu - silken Soy milk Soy creamer Polenta/grits Vienna sausages Hot dogs (blended) Baked potato Tiny pasta noodles Pasta w/pesto Refried beans Black beans (blended) Mashed potatoes Gravy Butter Peanut butter (blend w/soymilk and honey) Canned mushrooms (blended) Odwalla smoothees Soy protein powder Soy protein drink mixes Whey protein isolate Mac and real cheese Spaghetti squash Veggies (blended) Fruit Avocado Grains (quinoa?) Soy yogurt Lactaid milk Kefir Pineapple juice (enzymes help flush toxins) Apple juice Ensure or Boost (group prefers Ensure) Are You Lactose Intolerant? Try: Soy milk, non-dairy creamer or juices in place of milk. Sherbert & Sorbets can be used in place of ice-cream. Lactaid Pills can be purchased over the counter, crushed and use with meals. Many supplements like Ensure, Boost, Osmolite, are dairy free and can be used in place of yogurt. (My note: Sherbert does have some dairy) Recipe ideas from Tania Castro This is really good, tastes like apple pie with ice cream = cinnamon apple sauce (Motts is my favorite) & fat free vanilla frozen yogurt (Green's fat free frozen yogurt is so good - tastes like regular ice cream!) - put the apple sauce on top of the yogurt/ice cream in a bowl and enjoy, so good! = orange juice breakfast smoothie = three or four scoops of the Green's vanilla fat free frozen yogurt, orange juice, 1 banana, ice - blend and enjoy! = oreo smoothie - vanilla yogurt, ice, milk, Oreos, Uh - Oreo heaven! = bean burrito - without the burrito, take some refried beans, mix it with water to make it less thick, melt cheddar cheese on it, and then add sour cream and salsa - Mexican night! = Fully Dressed Spud = make instant potatoes, melt on it cheddar cheese, and dress it with whatever you want - chives, bacon bits, sour cream, chilli - sky's the limit, and its really good. = Turkey Stuffing - make the classic stove top stuffing and drizzle on it your authentic gravy or the kind from the store, both good, and there you go - its Thanksgiving! Might have to water down the stuffing depending on how thick you can handle it. Surprisingly, still really good even when watered down. If you want to eat something sinful and so good - try this = vanilla yogurt (3 scoops), cream cheese frosting (1 tablespoon), peanut butter (1 tablespoon), mix all three and enjoy. This is seriously like crack, so good you'll keep wanting more! :-)
