Guest guest
I make cow milk yogurt to my mom. Normally I don't ferment it for 24hours since she not on SCD. She can eat cheese, have milk in the coffee ++ but every time she eats my yogurt she gets bloated, and gets gas. Is it the probiotic she is reacting to?I have tried making it with lactose free milk, but she still reacted to it.kariannescd 12 months
Guest guest
I know we've been warned against using lactose free milk and I think it's because the bacteria feed off the lactose to make the yogurt. I could be incorrect though. Your mom is probably experiencing die off since SCD yogurt is so potent. So many people have bad bacteria; especially. It sounds like she's having die off to me. Guest guest
this raises a question for me, though. how do you know what's " die-off " , and what's " not tolerating a food " , if your symptoms are bloating, diarrhea, etc?i'm still struggling with getting my symptoms under control, and i'm almost a full month in. my bloating is insane. it seems like almost anything apart from meat/eggs makes me swell up i'm really discouraged. best, susannah. Guest guest
For me, it was time. I knew I didn't tolerate something when that pain around my navel started. I thought of gas and bloating as die off signs. Now, D to me would mean you don't tolerate it like the pain around my navel. Like you, I had to take the diet super slow. It was hard for me to add much in. I lived off eggs, colby jack cheese and chicken soup for a long time. It was a good 3 months before I could eat anything else regularly. I still get gas and bloating with some foods. I think you have to take it on a day by day basis. Things will get better. Remember, not all foods work for everyone. If zucchini causes you gas and bloating, wait 3 days and try spinach/carrots/eggplant/etc. If that causes you gas and bloating, try something else. Make sure you wait 3 days after you try something though. Keep doing that until you find the foods your body does tolerate. I tolerated french cut green beans, cauliflower and brussel sprouts early in the diet but I still don't tolerate much broccoli, eggplant, tomato, or almond butter. I do tolerate all squashes very well though. After a time, you can go back and try something that caused you problems before. Have you been keeping a food diary? (My standard question!) It can be difficult to track what's what unless you do, even if it's tedious. What have you been eating besides meat and eggs? And how is it prepared? This can all make a big difference. If you post that, maybe some of us can give you suggestions for how to get more satisfactory results. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
