Guest guest
Hi Diane, I have an overbite (retrognathic lower jaw). It's even worse now that they pulled two of the teeth and closed the spaces. The OS thought with the braces I might only have to have lower surgery, but looks like to open up the airway enough (to correct sleep apnea) I will have to have both done. The good side of it (and with having had breast cancer & beat that I've found I have always have to find some good in everything) is that because of the good alignment by the OD I won't have to have a splint. I've tried to get a ready as I can for the surgery. Since we live an hour from where the surgery will take place, we'll just stay at motel for the first night after I'm released. I've already been told that I will have the airway tube and a catheter left in overnight due to my history of sleep apnea & asthma. So I will probably be pretty sedated the first night. They've indicated I will probably be in ICU that night. As long as I don't come out of the anesthetic vomiting, I should be ok. I told the OS, make sure I have the best anesthesiologist. It can make all the difference. Last big surgery (reconstructive) I had a great one, and did not have any problems. I will let everyone know how it goes.
