Guest guest
Wow, that's a lot. I'm sorry to hear of your dilemma. I don't know that I can be of much help ... but for what's it's worth: My Surgeon and both of my Orthodontists worked very closely together. They met and discussed my case on several occasions - from the time I begun my orthodontics until the time of my surgery. If you have concerns about the position of your teeth post orthodontics and are questioning the need for surgery - talk to your surgeon - right away! What may seem like a good bite, may not be - just like some people have found their bites to be much worse prior to surgery. Voice your concerns, ask questions - make sure the answers you get satisfy your questions ... and then think about what you've learned, before making a final decision. Guest guest
Hi I am scheduled for surgery on June 6th in New York, just one day ahead of you so I'm sure we'll keep eachother company during recovery. I will be having an upper le forte, 3 pieces, potential lower depending on whether my jaw will swing into the right position or not, and genio. I will also have two upper biscuspids and wisdom teeth removed during the same procedure. In preparation for my surgery I have had to wear braces for the 4th time in my life so I feel your frustration at the previous failed orthodontic attempts. I wore braces prior to now for a total of 10 years and also should have probably done this surgery long ago. Honestly, I don't think I would have been as prepared as now to deal with the surgery and in some ways I am glad that I waited, although I wish those darn braces had done their work. Contrary to you I feel that my teeth have gotten worse rather than better since putting on my braces this time around. i was warned ahead of time that this would happen as a result of the realigning of the teeth so I am trying to accept it as patiently as possible. I understand your concerns about going through with the surgery because they are the same as mine but I would warn you that a lot of the " complications " we read about on this message board are actually probably a small percentage of all patients. As other members have said before on this board, unfortunately a lot of members who had positive recoveries neglect to post their experiences on the board, or never even know of the board's existence. It makes sense that those people who are going through the most trouble will need the most support and need to vent/get frustrations off their chest. This board has been a great comfort to me and very helpful in helping me get ready for surgery. However, I constantly remind myself while reading all the posts that I must not get too terrified that something bad will happen to me. POSITIVITY is the name of the game in my opinion. If you've come this far it would be a shame not to see it to the end. The other thing I would consider is that there is no guarantee that your bite and teeth will stay exactly as they are now when you take your braces off. They might revert back to their old position. But you should discuss this of course with your oral surgeon and orthodontist as they'll have a better idea of this than me for sure. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Just wanted to welcome you on board and let you know that if you decide to go through with the surgery you'll have more than one recovery buddy, there are at least 6 of us getting operated in June:-) Sara > Hello all, > > First of all, if anyone has had Lehman in Akron, OH for a > surgeon, please let me know. > > I am in braces for the third time after a previous ortho tried to > correct my bite with braces which failed miserably.
