Guest guest
I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not sure how to handle this. My son has been in his helmet for 2 weeks, he just developed what looks to be a heat rash...its little red bumps all over his head some look like little pimples...does that sound like heat rash?? it started at his hairline so I put hydrocortizone and it seemd to go away, the next day later it was all over his head...so I left the helemt off last night it seemed much better so put helmet back on today and in the evening its pretty red and bumpy again....so I put cortizone again and then put the helemt on? So my question is should I leave the helmet off/how long?? I mean will this even go away entirely, or just keep coming back, not sure how he will wear the thing if this continues. I also thought at first that it might be irritation from something shampoo/cleaning helmet? should I take him to the Dr to see what they say? I mean normally you would just keep him cool and dry , but with the helmet obviously thats a problem ...so how do I handle this??? Thanks for any advice! le Mom to 6mos
Guest guest
I am so sorry your little one is having a problem. I would contact your helmet provider first thing this Monday morning and let them know about the problem. I would not put that helmet on his broken-out head. Are you dressing him lightly? I would try lighter clothes. Even if it's cold outside when he is inside maybe a light cotton longsleeved onesie or one without feet? If the rash does continue I'm sure your helmet provider would recommend taking him to the Dr. too. Best of luck, > > I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not sure how to handle this. Guest guest
le, I had the same problem with my son. he was about 4 weeks into treatment and these bumps showed up. Also looking like little pimples some with white head on them. they were at the base of the neck and onto his shoulders. when i noticed they showed up I also saw that his head was sweatier then usual. so i bathed him and cleaned the band, then dressed him lighter then i had been. even though i thought he would be cold (and his legs felt chilly) he would still be hot every where else. The rash resolved itself after i did all of this. i never put anything on them though. i felt that if it was heat rash a bath to clean the sweat and dressing lighter would fix it. i dont know that a hydrocortisone cream would be good for that. Keep me posted if you speak to the dr about it and find out any info. thanks Kerri mom to ph 9months old 6 wks in doc band > > I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not sure how to handle this. Guest guest
i have no definitive answers, but this is what i would do: 1) take off helmet, wipe dry with towel and wipe child's head dry 2) call orthosist 3) switch to this shampoo for cleaning the helmet and your child's head every day-- California Baby Shampoo and Body Wash with Lavendar and Tee Tree Oil (available at target). It's designed to prevent skin irritation. 4) After one day with no helmet and following these steps, put helmet back on (unless instructed not to), resume normal helmet wearing schedule, but take off and wipe dry 2-3 times a day. 5) If this works, discontinue hydrocortisone. If it persists, try the cream again in addition to the above. This is what I would do. Let us know how it goes. Guest guest
woops, sorry, is assumed that everyone knows to clean with rubbing alcohol. i should have made that step 4. we were advised to clean the band with shampoo first, rinse thoroughly, and then clean with rubbing alcohol and rinse thoroughly. Works amazingly well for us. > > > > I have been reading through the old posts about rash but still am not sure > how to handle this. > > > > My son has been in his helmet for 2 weeks, he just developed what looks to > be a heat rash...its little red bumps all over his head some look like > little pimples...does that sound like heat rash?? it started at his > hairline so I put hydrocortizone and it seemd to go away, the next day later > it was all over his head...so I left the helemt off last night it seemed > much better so put helmet back on today and in the evening its pretty red > and bumpy again....so I put cortizone again and then put the helemt on? > > > > So my question is should I leave the helmet off/how long??
