mike,

thank ur lucky stars that you don't have the splint!! basically i

think different doctors use different techniques but it also might be

related to how many times your jaw has been dissected if at all. I'm

just hazarding a guess but my jaw was cut up in 3 segments so it might

require the splint more as a support platform to hold it up for the

first few weeks as the bone reheals. I'm not a doctor so I might be

totally off the mark here but either way, I am envious of your splint-

free liberty. I just want to rip this little sucker out right now!

im sorry, i didnt mean to rub it in about not having one ;)

but, yeah.. from what i've been reading it sounds like its

uncomfortable.

my jaw was not cut in segments so that makes sense.

thanks sara!

Hey ya'll...

I just had upper and lower jaw surgery right at 3 weeks ago and

both jaws were cut in two places... I too have been cursed with the

splint! It's such a pain in the butt! I don't have a clue how long I

have to wear it, but I can't wait until I get it out! LoL

I am having my lower jaw cut into two, to bring it forward. I then

have to wear a splint, which i believe holds the jaw perfcetly and

firmly in place, giving the 'holes' left by the surgans time to

reheal, without the chance of distortian occuring. They have probably

elasticed or wired your mouth so hard that it cannot move, therefore

doing the same job as the splint. Again like , i am not a

doctor, but this is what i would say.

It's my understanding that the splint keeps your teeth from moving. It

keeps them in place while the bone heals.
