Hi ,

I am glad that you are going for a second opinion as what's the point of getting your girls a helmet if YOU have to reposition it all the times!!!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful experience with Cranial Tech in VA (as you already know) and from what I read most if not all people who deal with them do.

Good luck

I am the mother to triplets (2 of which need cranial remolding). We are in MS and I quickly found out not many kids in MS get the remolding helmets b/c there is NOBODY around here that really has much expierence with them. Upon the advise of my Ped, he sent me to a "NEW" place in town that has a guy with cranial helmet exp. Make a long story short, we are 2 months into it and getting nowhere. I have been back in twice a week telling them the helmets do not fit. They shift, pinch ears, twist, come down on eyebrow. Finally I told them I was going for a second opinion since they kept telling me the helmet fit and I would just need to "reposition" it from time to time. After hearing I would go somewhere else they were quick to tell me they were just going to make a new helmet. I was furious. I left the helmets there and told them I would call them back when I thought about things. Now, to present day. The closet places to me with any exp with

helmets would be Children's Hospital in New Orleans or the Dallas Cranial Tech. I have spoken with the people at Cranial and I am very impressed. I would like to know if you think it is worth the while to go that far. They are 6 hours away (and I will have 3 babies with me). If New Orleans would be just as good, it would be so much easier to go there. Ultimately, I need to do the best thing and I will deal with the stress of getting there. Also, did they cast or digitally imagine in the fitting process. My place did the cast. Everyone else I talk with says they don't cast. I am just trying to figure out what to do next!

I think I should have posted that to the group. Sorry.

Hi. My son needed a band and we live in Birmingham, AL. We did a lot of

research and met with Hanger here in town and were not impressed. We

decided to drive the 7 hours to Charlotte, NC

to Cranial Tech. The band fits tighter than other bands, or so I've

heard. My son doesn't seem to mind it and it doesn't shift much. How

old are your kids? I think the babies in doc bands from Cranial Tech

are in them shorter periods because they fit better and work faster. I

gather this just from what I've read. We opted for the doc band because

our son was 8 months old when he got in it. They say they grow out of

doc bands around 3-4 months. By that point our son will be 12 months

and after there isn't a lot of growth to work with anyway. Hanger told

us the band they have can last 4-5 months. We felt like since our child

was the age he was, that the tighter more fitted band with the shorter

duration was his best option. We didn't want to lose out on growth

early on in a loose fitting band. He has been in it a month and we can

see great results already. He still has a ways to go but it is

definitely much improved. Some babies will require a second band from

CT because they grow out of them, but I htink this is a decision you

will have to make depending on the age of your kids. No matter what our

son's head looks like at 12 months of age we don't plan to band him a

second time. We think at that age it isn't worth it. I

do think that Cranial Tech are better sales people than the other

companies, hence they are more professional adn I've heard can

sometimes put down other products. I'm not sure who you would go to in New Orleans, they may be great, but we definitely think it is worth the drive for a shorter period to go to CT.Please feel free to ask me more

questions.Amy

I am glad you are getting a second opinion too! My daughter who is 6.5 months

graduates from her DOC Band Tuesday from Dallas Cranial Tech and we have really

enjoyed CT. We see every week and I really liked Sally as well. You'll

have to obviously decide if the drive is something you are willing to do, but

you won't be diappointed with CT in Dallas. Something I really like about them:

They are really quick- we never wait longer than a minute or two in the waiting

room, yet they are still thorough during the appointment. My daughter will

graduate after 8 weeks in her band, which is quick, but her results have been

great, and there is no more room left to shave! :) I don't recall you saying

how old your babies are, but I will say that my daughter and I had to go every

week because she was growing so fast! But at least it was only for 8 weeks!

Good luck with your decision and your triplets!

Sounds like you have a big decision to make. We are currently in our second DOC Band and have had a great experience with Cranial Tech. We are confident in their expertise and care and we are seeing great results. I think it's fair to say - and I think most, if not all, CT parents would agree - you can't go wrong with Cranial Tech. But what a trek with 3 babies in tow!! Do you know anyone with experience with the clinic in New Orleans? On a positive note, if you did go with CT, the 6 hour drive would be a huge commitment, but it would last only a few months. It would probably be a hard few months but it wouldn't last forever! Just one way to look at it... Since you've already started the process and haven't had a great experience, you certainly don't want to lose more time. Seems like CT is the safer bet in terms of experience and results...just requires a much more significant commitment on your part. Let us know what you decide. Good luck...
