Guest guest
Hello, my name is and I am officially one year out! I had an open RNY on September 25, 2002. I am -153lbs and feeling pretty darn good. According to my Op Report I am a proximal with 120cm bypassed so, so far so good. I am still dropping weight, slower now, but the numbers are still going down so I am happy with that. On the day of surgery I weighed 347 lbs so in this past year not only did I drop down into the 200's, now I can finally say I am in the 100's. All my co-morbs are gone, (sleep apnea, high BP, joint pain, and was on my way to diabetes.) I can slide down a slide with my son, get my butt into a swing on a swingset without cutting off all of my circulation! It is awesome and I have to say a great big thank you to all of you on this group. Your insight, humor, honesty, and sharing has helped me more than I could ever express in words. (Vitalady) you are truly an amazing woman and I thank you so very much for your guidance along the way, may you always be richly blessed in your life. Also Congrats to you on your new Granddaughter!!!! G. in Iowa Open RNY--Proximal

Guest guest
Dear , Thank you for this post... I have over the past few months experienced increased sugar cravings after giving up drinking. Although I did not realize they were related. Makes absolute sense. I did note that after eating cookies I experienced a kind of clamminess, an odd heat in my body. I was actually relieved to have a negative reaction since I am wrestling with my sugar cravings. Isn't it odd that I did not experience this from alcohol? What do you do when your cravings rear their ugly little heads? Do you bake, or buy sugarfree things, or just abstain? Thanks, Any advice from the list also? Warmly, (not from sugar, smile) laura In a message dated 2/6/04 7:10:04 AM Eastern Standard Time, davidinaustin@... writes: > > I can share what goes on for me. Guest guest
Who was the doc? What kind of surgery? Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. T www.vitalady.com Introduction (long) Hi everyone, My name is Dana and I live in the Los Angeles area. I have been a lurker for about a year or so. I had lap RNY in November 2001 (proximal)and lost exactly 99 lbs in a year. I proceeded to lose another 17 lbs for a grand total of 116 lbs by this past summer by following Adkins pretty strictly. I started at 338 and am 5'7 " and got down to as low as 222. However my weight has bounced around a bit (up about 8 pounds). I still have at least another 50 lbs I would like to lose. I am struggling with this...my most recent dietary change has been to have 3 protein shakes a day, do a mostly vegetarian diet (I also eat fish), no milk, have few complex carbs and no simple carbs or sugar. However, my weight seems stuck at a setpoint...it just keeps bouncing around the same few lbs...UP and down, UP and down. I decided to NOT do Adkins anymore due to the restrictive eating and the fact that my weightloss plateaued drastically after an initial 16 lb weightloss and anytime I would eat something that would push me outside of the Induction plan, I'd put on 3 lbs overnight. All in all, I thought I would try something that felt healthier and more natural for a lifetime. One of the main things I stuggle with is the fact that for the past 1.5 years I have facilitated my surgeon's support group. I've seen so many people come as PreOps, and lose lose lose...then not come to any meetings anymore. I've stuck with the meetings however, fighting the big fight...struggling for every pound and finally have come to the point where I feel like it is all somehow unfair. Though I am a trained counselor, it's hard not to feel like a failure when friends are losing 60 lbs in the first 3 mos and will probably easily get to goal. I did all the right things. I don't know why I've been a slow loser. My surgeon really has not been much help at all (he's a Flintstone and Tum's sort of guy). I drink my water, I take a multivitamin and oftentimes others as well, like Calcium Citrate and B12 (though I have to admit I don't take them as regularly). You may be asking yourself, " does she exercise? " ...the answer would be not lately due to exercise and injury...however I am not sedentary and DO go for walks a few times a week. I know that exercise would help me lose SOME weight, but I guess my question is...do you think that my current eating plan (maybe 1200-1400 calories a day) in addition to exercise will help me lose the additional weight? I could just use some suggestions and support. I'm feeling discouraged and though I know over 100 lbs is a great amount to lose...I still can't help but fight the feelings of failure that creep into my head sometimes. Any suggestions? If you've made it this far, thank you for reading my lonnnnnnnnnng post. I know from lurking here in the past year that you are a wonderful group of people and I'd love to get to know you all better. Guest guest
Dana, Hi, you could be writing my story! I started about the same place as you and have lost about the same amount, bouncing around at 222 also. I would also like to lose an additional 50 pounds and haven't made any headway as of yet. Guest guest
Me bake? Bug sugar-free? Abstain? LOL Actually, I try to abstain. I'd been hankering for some carrot cake for over a week, and finally yesterday decided to just go ahead and have some and get it out of my " system. " It tasted ok, but it made me yuckily nauseous and then an hour later, I got the sugar shakes. Totally not worth it, but it can and will happen again. I just try to make it a long time from now. Nothing screams at me like sugar does. I just struggle and do the best I can. With booze, I seldom noticed the sugar-wearing-off stuff, because I was probably asleep by then. I didn't really drink during the day, except the odd beer on vacation or something. in Austin RNY April 1998 315/190s Re: Introduction (long) Dear , Thank you for this post... Guest guest
You can certainly have an intact non-working surgery as we see a lot of them in these parts. The surgery you have might be perfect for this person over here, but not right for you. My surgery is certainly not right for everyone either. You CAN out eat this one, but it takes some work (grazing + sugar). Revision is an option that is out there. Money might be in the way. But you are not in a steel trap forever. When my SLD, I revised without a second's hesitation. I've been doing what I do long enough to know that I could gain at the rate of 1 lb per day with a broken surgery. My biggest fear is the return of my comorbs, not the cute factor. I like being able to breathe and have found that quite addictive Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
