Guest guest
> What does a gurggling gut signify? Good digestion or poor? My son has been on the diet for over a month now and whenever he has tried just even a spoon of SCD yogurt he gets the gurggles and we wonder what it means. He has avoided it for fear that it will set him back. My concern though is that if the diet is really putting an end to the bad guys, how do we get the good guys introduced if the yogurt doesn't work for him. Is it time to try a capsule probiotic? Yes, that is one option. For people very sensitive to the yogurt, it is recommended to start with 1/4 or even 1/8th of a teaspoon of yogurt and build up from there. You could also try every other day or every third day. Also, some people have better luck starting with goat milk yogurt - less reaction, etc. Was he off dairy or lactose intolerant before this? > Another thing I don't understand, if the recommended amount of bacteria on a daily basis is suppose to be 3 billion, than why does Elaine push the yogurt with 700 billion!? Am I misunderstanding something? Well, Elaine's opinions often differ from conventional medical opinion. Also, when you are attempting to change an entire gut ecology from pathogenic to healthy, different considerations are in order than what applies to so called healthy people - a more aggressive approach than the tepid bacteriological understanding often advanced by conventional medical opinion. But, this is something you have to build up to. Too much too soon can be very problematic for some people. > > Regarding fresh squeezed lemon juice...I made fresh lemondade for our July 4th party and made a honey syrup for my son so that he could enjoy the lemonade. He said his stools went looser after drinking this. Is fresh lemon juice not a good thing? It works for some people, for others, it might be too strong, or too strong initially - he might have to build up to it. Or it might just be for now, and later he will be fine with it - this is something you will have to determine individually. > He only used about 3 Tablespoons per serving. > Well, you could dilute it further, or use a lot less to begin with. If you get the same result, then back off fresh lemon juice for a while. Things like this are idiosyncratic and you will have to figure out what works for him individually. There's no predicting patterns in this gig, unfortunately. > BTW...it was delicious!!! I would have gladly had his over the traditional kind I made with sugar for everyone else but I made it just for him:) Yeah - it's good - I've been drinking a lot of it. Very refreshing. Guest guest
Gurgling is one of those symptoms that could go either way; I often interpret it as an indicator that the bacteria in my gut are fulfilling their role in digestion but it depends on what other symptoms are present. If gurgling is the only symptom, I don't think you should assume its bad. Maybe keep trying a spoonful or two and see if any other symptoms show up? Then you guys would know for sure. fiona
