Guest guest
a, I had both upper, lower jaw advancement & genio 12 days ago. I had dizziness, but mine was related to blood loss and a blood transfusion helped. Dizziness can be from a number of causes. When getting up sit up and wait a minute or two. Then, slowly get up and wait a few seconds. Sometimes we move too quickly and our blood pressure doesn't adjust as quickly. If it continues definitely tell your surgeon about the dizziness. I get a burning pain in my lips. The pain is probably the nerves regenerating. My lower jaw isn't as numb as the upper so I can already start to feel the feeling in lips coming back. Not there yet, but it's getting better. The chin is mainly numb just unerthe lower lip, but even with it each day I can tell I'm healing and getting more feeling back. Hugs, we're thinking of you. Guest guest
a, On dizziness: ok, let's think about this for a minute. You've just had major surgery. You're eating about a quarter of what you usually eat. You are very low on energy to spare because your body is using all it can to regenerate the area where the surgery took place. You're on antibiotics or were. You probably don't sleep that well. It's no wonder you're dizzy girl! Please try to be easy on yourself. I suffered dizzy spells like crazy the first few weeks of surgery and now that I am 4 weeks post-op I still do, especially in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom. I get scared that I will faint as I have a history of fainting. What Shirley recommended to do is very good. Remember to get up slowly every time that you do. The reason we get dizzy is either because of low blood sugar levels or because when you have been lying down and suddenly get up the body doesn't automatically transfer blood to the head. It takes it a few seconds. Plus since you're probably swollen, you're circulation is most probably less than perfect at the moment making blood circulation even slower. It will get better, I promise. On dull acges around the temple/jaw area: again, these are normal in my opinion. i had them for the first couple of weeks of surgery. i would apply a lot of ice because it just relieved the pain. i would take codeine and tylenol sometimes to sleep but after day 10 i stopped taking painkillers altogether. the pain has gotten much better but as i exercise my jaw more and more it does come back for brief periods of time. this is normal. if however, the pain gets to be unbearable let you doctor know and request that he check up the area with an xray. remember, your jaw has been moved into a new position and all your muscles need to get used to it. it's likely that they might be trying to pull the jaw back into its original position but can't and the strain is causing you some pain. On regaining sensation in the lip and chin: i had upper jaw sugery and my lower jaw was moved up. i also had a genio. i know that with lower jaw surgery it takes longer for the lip sensation to come back and it can take anywhere between 4 weeks to two years. The secret is to be patient. The same goes for the chin. Everyday I get more and more sensation back. Those sharp spasms and tingles that you feel are indeed the nerve regenerating and every time they do you should be rejoicing. It's a good sign!! Try to stay positive. Your recovery will become easier and easier and things will soon get back to normal. Sara > I have had lower jaw advancement last week.
