I looked up Epicor and it contains:

Serving Size (1 Vegetarian Capsule):

Servings Per Container: 60

EpiCor Dried Yeast Fermentate 500mg

Other Ingredients: Vegetable Capsule, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate

(Vegetable Source)

Add this to the lactose in the S bouilardi and it looks like you gave your gut a

dose of illegals.

Since SCD worked so well for you, I think returning to it strictly will turn

things around.

Thank you PJ That is what I was thinking. I am going to have to give my environmental doctor some feedback about how risky her advice was. I thought that I just read that people who speak at conferences on SCD have to be approved by the Gottschall people. I wonder how the DAN doctor she asked got approved since the person is obviously not knowledgeable enough about it.JeanineSCD 3 1/2 yearsceliacI looked up Epicor and it contains:Serving Size (1 Vegetarian Capsule):Servings Per Container: 60 EpiCor Dried Yeast Fermentate 500mgOther Ingredients: Vegetable Capsule, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate (Vegetable Source) Add this to the lactose in the S bouilardi and it looks like you gave your gut a dose of illegals.Since SCD worked so well for you, I think returning to it strictly will turn things around.PJ>> Hi Everyone,> I have been on SCD for about 3 and 1/2 years now and was doing really > well until the past couple of months when I have been in a flare. because the environmental doc who told me about SCD told me she had

checked with the SCD expert at a DAN doctors conference and been told

that it would be fine for me while on SCD. Now I am questioning

whether it might have contributed to the flare. I am guessing it is

illegal, but does anyone have an opinion on it?

Epicor is not SCD-legal. It's Sacchromyces Cerevisiae, and it is

not permitted.

>> 2) This week I saw a nutritionist who supposedly knows SCD

well. I was especially happy because I was in a flare so I thought

it would be great. She was recommended by my primary care doc who

has tried SCD herself. The nutritionist told me to take Kombu and

Nori seaweed every day. I told her it was illegal and she insisted

that on an earlier form of the diet it was allowed. I looked it up

when I got home and it's loaded with polysaccharides, so I didn't take

it. <<

No. Seaweed has never been allowed on SCD. You were wise not to

take it.

>> I did take the form of S Boulardii she recommended:

Florastor: Ingredients: S boulardii 250 mg and

lactose 33 mg. I told her the lactose was illegal and she said it

would be eaten by the S Boulardii. I took it twice and got an awful

stomach ache, <<

I have to shake my head. I was taking both l. acidophilus and s.

boulardii after my uterine cancer surgery -- and ended up on Motrin,

which is formulated with lactose. My probiotics sure as Hades didn't

touch the lactose in the Motrin -- and I can guarantee you that leaping

out of bed to rush to the toilet with explosive diarrhea when you have a

24 " incision across your gut is NOT entertaining.

I sometimes get really ticked that people give poor advice like this --

and get paid for it -- and then their victims have to come to us, the

unpaid volunteers, to clear up the issues created by the poor

advice.

Basically, you handed your poor gut a major whack of illegals, and

bollixed your gut ecology. Since SCD has worked well for you, you might

wish to return to fanatical adherence -- and step back to more easily

digested foods for a bit.

S. boulardii is good stuff, but you need a brand without illegals in

it.

Thank you MarilynAnd you know, when the doctor told me to take the epicor I remembered that you said there was only one yeast allowed on SCD---but somehow the fact that this is a doc who has helped me a lot in other ways held sway over that little voice in my head---and over your excellent and wise advice. I can be pretty dumb sometimes. And yes, it is really awful that the people getting the big bucks are causing more work for you generous kind volunteers. I am going to try to do my best to educate the 2 I have contact with so maybe they won't send any more of their victims your way. Back to being fanatical! Thank you so much!JeanineSCD 31/2 yearsceliac At 05:29 PM 6/7/2010, you wrote:1) About 6 months ago I started taking Epicor (please see link below for ingredients) because the environmental doc who told me about SCD told me she had checked with the SCD expert at a DAN doctors conference and been told that it would be fine for me while on SCD. 1) About 6 months ago I started taking Epicor (please see link below for ingredientsHi Jeanine,I found this info about Epicor:Antibodies against S. cerevisiae are found in 60–70% of patients with Crohn's disease and 10–15% of patients with ulcerative colitis."Saccharomyces" derives from Latinized Greek and means "sugar mold" or "sugar fungus", saccharo- being the combining form "sugar-" and myces being "fungus". cerevisiae comes from Latin and means "of beer". Other names for the organism are:S. cerevisiae short form of the scientific nameBrewer's yeast though other species are also used in brewingAle yeastTop-fermenting yeastBaker's yeastBudding yeastThe only Saccharomyces approved is S. Boulardii ( without the lactose) because it is a non-colonizing yeast.Hope this helps,Pat
