Tara - cool! Where did you have surgery?

I love to get a few meals out of one too, it takes the guess work of what to

have for dinner.

> When i go food shopping i go for 2 weeks at a time- Im getting

bored. Im tired of spending so much money on food but yet i want to

eat healthy. Anyone care to share any meal ideas or tips you use

for food shopping. I am going try to go high protien for a few weeks

to get me back on track.

We have a gas grill and I've been doing a lot on that. It's quick

and easy, tasty, and no pan to wash, just wire brush the grill

before and after. I do steak, chicken breast, meaty fish like

salmon or swordfish. I also do veggies: green peppers, onions,

eggplant, portobello mushrooms, endive. There's so much nice stuff

in the groceries and farm stands at this time of year. I have one

of those perforated baskets that you can put smaller chunks of

veggies in, or for bigger pieces just brush with oil, salt, and put

them directly on the grill. We've also been making a lot of tomato

salads: just cut up tomato, add thinly sliced onion, some basil,

lots of salt, and olive oil. It quickly makes its own dressing.

Yum!

Take advantage of the " processed " stuff in the produce department,

like broccoli crowns, bagged lettuce, washed baby spinach you can

microwave in the bag, etc.

There are some good ideas on the Food Network, if you get that:

check out shows by Sara Moulton, Alton Brown, and " Cooking Thin " .

Buy or borrow some cooking magazines. My favorite is " Cooks

Illustrated, " which has real-world recipes that they've thoroughly

tested in a scientific manner. They also publish cookbooks, I

really like " The Perfect Recipe " .

Do you have Trader Joe's near you? They have lots of interesting

stuff, including convenience foods. Things like plain brown rice

that you can microwave in three minutes, and lots of interesting

frozen veggies and meats, interesting sauces, etc. I bought some

low-carb pasta there recently but haven't tried it yet, so it could

be awful!
