Guest guest
hi all! it is now exactly, 7 weeks post op from a surgery that retracted my lower jaw. after a pretty horrible visit to the OS at 6.5 weeks, where a bomb of bad news was dropped on my hopeful soul, i have good news to report. on wednesday, after what seemed like an eternity of a week, i was unwired at my OS. wow. .. does it ever feel like wings sprouted from my shoulders and carried me above and away from everything that made me sad. the first time i opened my jaw i moved it less than a milimeter, but it felt like i was getting ready to swallow a big mac. at went to work right after, and as a leadership instructor, my job involves a ton of talking and excitement. well. .. did this excitement ever floor me! during one activity, i got my blood going and through muscle memory, my jaw muscles tried to pull my mouth open .. then wham. .. i'm floored by a mind-numbing pinch in the ball joint. i recovered from this after a few minutes, my trainees looking on, not knowing what to do! ahhahah. . of course this happens at least half a dozen times before i learned to go back to my clenched teeth mumbles. i decide that i would be better off mumbling through my teeth till after work when i can concentrate on jaw exercises. before i went to bed, i had a fear of rolling on my jaw (becaue i'm naturally an open mouthed sleeper) and inflicting a terrible injury. this mornign, i wok up and i was able to open my mouth almost 2 centimeters. .. wow. .. it felt great. at work, i was able to run 2ks without running out of breath, and i was sooo happy about it. i'm almost able to stick out my tongue too. .. so, anyway ... that's how it is after 7 weeks of being wired shut. there are painful moments, but there's sort of a persistent inspiration to get better! ahhh. . it feels great! good luck with everyone
Guest guest
Derrick, CONGRATS on your unwiring and freedom at last. I can just picture you soaring across the city with your new found wings:-) Enjoy the new view but remember to still take it easy. Guest guest
Derrick, Thanks for your un-wiring story. I am 18 days post op, and currently wired shut...so, obviously I'm pretty curious and a bit anxious about what the unwiring will actually be like. Thanks for sharing your story about what it was like shortly after being un-wired. P.S. - did it hurt much to have the wires removed? I don't know what to expect with it, but I was told I would be sedated... Judy
