Guest guest
i went to the PS the other day for what they call their 'teaching' which happens a week or so prior to surgery. they handed me a prescription for three different meds. i was sorta surprised because they want me to take zantac and reglan prior to the surgery to reduce the stomach juices - i laughed and said i don't have any juices anymore anyhow. i think they forget about us gastric bypass patients. i'm just curious if anyone else had to do this ? i've had numerous other surgeries with anesthesia and never had to do this as a precaution for anesthesia. its just one pill that morning but i wonder how it will affect me just the same since the 'juice' is so greatly reduced already. the other prescription was for keflex for like 5 days. what was others experience? sue
Guest guest
Interesting. Since anesthesia often makes me pukey, I'd take it. And I always ask them to match the happy juice with equal parts anti-nausea, too. Bad enough waking up after surgery (ok, waking is good, just not how you feel), but waking up with heaves is MUCH worse. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
I always get pukey after surgery, so they give me stuff before, during and after. Then the next day they have to give me anti-nausea stuff too. It was NO different this last time. Except the nausea waited until the day after the surgery. Yes we do still have stomach juices - just not as much. They are also finding that even though we have a very small amount of stomach acid in our pouch, our pouch is also very small - so it is definitely enough to cause ulcers. I know two postops who not only had ulcers postop, but they perforated and had to have surgery to repair. I am 19 months postop and I take Prevacid every day, otherwise, my pouch is too acidic. Guest guest
Sandy, you and I appear to be in the same boat, I am on my second round of ulcers since weight-loss surgery. I am on Prevacid and suspect I will be forever. Guest guest
Amber, I'm on nexium 2 x a day and have been for over 4 months. If I back down on the dose, it is horrible. My surgeon wants me to prep for having surgery to repair the ulcer, that scares me pretty bad. I'm just thinking that after the first of the year, I'll have to have the surgery, as it sure doesn't want to heal. I'm sorry for your ulcers, they are a true pain . . .
