Guest guest
When I was flaring badly last summer I suffered with terrible nightly leg cramps. I would literally wake up crying. This flare hasn't been nearly as bad -- caught early and treated I suspect -- and I haven't had the problem. I think it must have something to do with this cRaP although I don't know what... Guest guest
Boy it sure seems like we all get these leg cramps. Is it RP related?? sure must be somehow and I can't find anything to back it up. I'm so sorry to all who have them... They are new to me and boy they are miserable. I've made a list of all your suggestions and will try them all. ( the ones I can) thanks again.. I think we should bring this up to or drs and let them know that this is something a lot of us have. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I noticed that there's been a lot of talk about leg cramps. I used to get them constantly even though my potassium level was good. Then I started drinking Perrier water on a regular basis because it helps with the metho hangover and settles my stomach. I drink a bottle or two a week, best $2.60 I ever spent. Since that I rarely get leg cramps. Don't know if it has anything to do with it. I sure know how painful those cramps are. Also found that rubbing ice on the cramped muscle worked really quickly, as long as you can bear the cold. Just thought I'd butt my nose in. Hope it's helpful Elaine M

I would think you would get way too much sugar if you ate enough bananas to help your potassium level. Have you had labs done to see if that is what is actually causing your leg cramps? If so, you might actually need a potassium supplement if eating foods high in potassium doesn't bring the level up. These foods are a good source of potassium (more than 225 mg per 1/2 cup serving) without being too high in sugar: All meats, poultry and fish Avocados Lima Beans Potatoes Spinach Tomatoes V-8 juice Winter squash Other foods with moderate potassium (125 -225 mg per serving) and fairly low sugar are: Asparagus Broccoli Carrots Corn Eggplant Green peas Loose leaf lettuce (not iceberg) Mushrooms (fresh) Onions Summer Squash (including zucchini) Sheri In Sunny Florida
Guest guest
Once you have real blood levels (the test is cheap & fast, PCP can do this) I take pot. supps. I take 4, but that was one pill, test, 2 pill, test, etc. When I reached 4, levels reached & held perfection. But you adjust to YOU, to your labs. Potassium is in charge of that OTHER annoying muscle, the heart, and you don't wanna be dinking around with that high or low. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Bananas are not only high in carbs and sugar, you would have to eat an entire bunch to get enough potassium to bring your levels up if you are deficient. I have been having lots of muscle cramps lately, even in my hands. I was taking three 500 mg calcium capsules per day, lately I've been lucky to get in one. I will be very greatful to you if I find out this is why! " FarAwayDeb " lap RNY 8/2/01 Rochester, NY
Guest guest
And even with those 3 a day, you were NOT getting 1500 mg of pure calcium, only about 1/4 of that. By its very nature, calcium citrate (or any other form, for that matter) is not all pure calcium. To get 500mg of pure calcium from one capsule, the capsule would be too huge for you to swallow. Be wary of any product that says it has 500 mg calcium in just one pill. It is mis-labeled. So many people out there are thinking they are getting their calcium and they just are NOT, bcuz they aren't aware of this little-known fact.
