Guest guest
Judy, Well, first of all, yay for you and your four hour nap! I couldn't sleep more than a couple of hours at a time when I was 7 days post- op. Next, company is wonderful - makes you feel loved and cared for - but don't be afraid to tell folks when you want them to GO HOME! Okay, enough funny stuff ... Any idea where the blood came from? Could it be as simple as a wire that cut the inside of your mouth? When things are numb, we can't always feel when the wired are poking/cutting/rubbing and causing damage. I had no idea that the inside of my upper lip was torn up until my Surgeon told me so - and then proceeded to bend my hooks back so that they didn't cause anymore damage. Could it be left over from surgery? Maybe blood from your stomach? Not enough to make you vomit (thank goodness) but enough that it came up and out. (sorry to be gross - that seems to be my theme tonight) If the bleeding has stopped, I wouldn't panic. Maybe just call your doctor first thing in the morning. Of course, if it starts again, that's a different story. Some ice might make it feel better for tonight. And if you have pain medication - don't hesitate to indulge. Hang in there ... post if anything else happens ... and remember to breathe. Most of the time we make things much worse in our heads then they are in reality. Take care, Carol > Hi everyone, > I just woke up from a long nap a little while ago. Guest guest
I would suggest you call your surgeon and tell him/her what happened. Were you sleeping on your side? That can cause soreness in the early stages of recovery. The blood oozing out is more worrisome, though, and I'd make sure you ask about that. Monitor the soreness in case it gets worse since it could be infection (that's the only thing my surgeon said I had to be worried about post-op). The office isn't closed when you're only 7 days post-op and having troubles - make sure you call and leave a message for your surgeon. I was 6 weeks post-op when I called my surgeon and it was our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend (my surgical hook had broken off and I couldn't attach my elastics the way I was supposed to). My surgeon called me back personally, and didn't mind it at all. I used to say they get paid big bucks to answer our questions, but since we found out what our surgeons get paid in Canada, it's not a lot! Anyway, you're his/her patient, and he/she needs to know what's going on. Hope that helps, call now! > Hi everyone, > I just woke up from a long nap a little while ago. Guest guest
Hi Carol, No I really don't know where the blood came from actually. It wasn't a lot, but I'm still drooling, and it was in my drool as I was waking up...so I just don't know. My 4 hour nap felt really great, but I woke up with everything hurting and throbbing pretty badly. I cleaned my mouth out...rinsed with some warm salt water - that seemed to help, but man my head/jaw/face is super sore tonight. I've had tons of visitors this weekend, and trying to 'talk' with my face like this really makes it hurt more...so tomorrow I am going back to writing in my notebook for a day! My head is throbbing at the moment and we have a huge, huge storm going on too...seems like my throbbing and the lightening outside are in sync with one another! I put my ice pack back on tonight...it's on now, and it's helping. I took some liquid motrin but it still hurts, so will have to wait a while before taking anything more. Thanks for your advice and hopefully no more bleeding for me... Take care, Judy
Guest guest
Hi , I wasn't sleeping on my side, I was sleeping on my back. The soreness isn't anything worse than I've had..it really seems like I just aggravated it by talking too much the past couple of days. I'm normally quite a jabber-box and it's hard for me to keep quiet, but I'm going to practice again tonight and tomorrow just being quiet! I will call tomorrow and see what they say...I'm really tired tonight even after a 4 hour nap.. plus we have a huge storm rolling through our area and I am simply going to go to bed a little early. I was worried that I broke open some stitches or something and when I posted I had just cleaned my mouth out and didn't know what to do or think. Still don't but the bleeding has stopped for now, so I think I'm going to sleep on it tonight, and hopefully no more bleeding!!! Thanks, Judy
Guest guest
Hi Judy, Hope things are better today for you. I used my whiteboard for several weeks as talking really tired me out, and even after 5 weeks when I went back to work, I tried to minimize talking. Good friends should understand that you need to heal. They wouldn't want to take you out dancing or doing a walkathon if you'd just broken your leg, would they? > Hi , > I wasn't sleeping on my side, I was sleeping on my back. Guest guest
Judy, I've noticed that post surgery the weather affects me more. Very strange - but true. You should absolutely write if you need to. I went through four notebooks over the first couple of weeks. Only do what you can. Did you call your doctor today? was right, you know. No surgeon's office is EVER really closed. Most have services that will page them and they get back to you relatively quickly. Hang in there ... and take it easy! All the best, Carol > Hi Carol, > No I really don't know where the blood came from actually. Guest guest
Hi , Things are better today - thanks. I've taken it very easy, plus had our local orthodontist take a quick look in my mouth (he did braces for two of our kids so I know him well and he knew I was having this done)...all appears to be well today. No added pain, or swelling or especially no more bleeding. I think it was just overuse honestly. My face was really sore/painful yesterday after too many visitors and too much 'talking' or attempting to anyway. Today, I've napped twice, this is the first time on the computer all day too, I've stayed very quiet...no visitors! And, I'm feeling better again. Don't get me wrong, I'm just 8 days post op, so the swelling and pain/soreness is still there, but it's going away a little each day thank goodness! I am using my whiteboard too, plus my notebook again today...so I am sticking with that for a while instead of trying to talk to much. It's just too painful yet, I guess. Thanks for all your concerns...it's very much appreciated! P.S. I looked at your pictures, and your result is simply amazing!! Where did you find someone to do MLD? I've never heard of it before.
