Have appt this afternoon with my gyn. 2 weeks post-op from my

hysterectomy. I am going crazy and experiencing all the problems of

menopause even though I am 51 and experienced natural menopause pre-

wls. There is a good possibility he will recommend HRT and I

remember past discussion on this list about its effectiveness for

those who have had WLS. Am particularly considering the patch. I

can't stand this.

, The patch is great IF....you aren't allergic to the adhesives used to

sticking this to your body and if you have tight enough skin that it will

STAY stuck to your skin. I had no problem with the adhesives on the patch

itself, but had a TERRIBLE time getting it to stay stuck to me! So, I tried

using tape to help keep it stuck to me...and was allergic to the tape. I

plan on trying the patch again...once I get my SKIN tightened up.

, I am 10 post op open RNY and have been on HRT for 8 years

now. I tried the patch and if it did stick, it irritated my skin,

but most often it did not stick. I take Estratest(sp). I take 2

full strenghts and 2 1/2 strenghts per day. I space the pills apart

for better absorbtion. It has worked well for me! My hot flashes

and mood swings all went away and my sex drive came back better than

ever. My DH is bery grateful for hormones. I was very miserable

before. I know there is much controversey out there, but I go to my

PCP for a pelvic every year and have a mammogram every 6 months. I

believe in quality of life over quantity. Oh by the way I had a

hysterectomy 27 years ago but still have my ovaries.

Best of luck to you

Oh Man!!!!!! I never thought of duck tape! LOL Boy am I glad. What an ouchy

that would have made. With HRT I was told to put it on my butt or

abdomen....now....since most of you can sympathize...with sharpei skin

NOTHING sticks to it. It MOVES too much. Am keeping my fingers crossed that

I will be able to use the patches once my front is all nice and tight. Then

we will work on my back end about 6 months later....then I will have CHOICES

of where to put a patch!

Debbie-

That is funny what you said about using tape to get the patch to stick to

you. Which reminds me of last year when i tried quiting smoking i was doing

so well with the patch- well i was down to my last patch and it would not

stick- I broke out the duck tape-- worst move in my life--- Needless to say

im smoking again but working on quiting again. No Duck Tape here tho :-)

Hi , I use the patch and am 19 mo post-op. It works. My gyn

decided to switch me from pills to the patch right before surgery so

that we wouldn't have to deal with absorbtion issues. My skin does

get irritated sometimes underneath the patch-less so if I place on my

hip than on the more sensitive tummy. It sticks quite well-only time

it did not was in a hot tub.

I'm also a believer in quality of life..I tried weaning off of the

patch after all the reports came out that HRT was not as good for you

as previously thought, but the menopause came raging back and nothing

else worked. They work wonderfully.

Unless they explicitly tell you NOT to put it there, I found the upper

arm, on the outside, to be a great place to put the birth control patch.

I don't see why that wouldn't work for HRT too. In that location, it's

under your sleeve (unless you wear tank tops a lot) and that skin is

usually reasonably firm and smooth.

For some reason, the patch I was prescribed specifically said to place on

the butt or abdomen. I have no idea why. The arm would have been

better...less loose skin (well sorta. LOL) I even tried putting it at the

small of my back where the skin is tighter...but that didn't work. Maybe I

just have skin that won't allow things to stick to it. Gee, maybe I am

Teflon coated?
