Guest guest
I have a 9 tray Excalibur that fits just about anything but there are all different size glass mason jars at Wal Mart here in the US. I'm sure you can find something that will fit. I love making yogurt in my Excalibur. I am not sure whether the 2-quart glass jars I have purchased from Lucy's Kitchen and from Digestive Wellness, each nearly 6.5 " tall with the lid on, would fit inside that dehydrator, because the height of the dehydrator is shown as 6.5 " . Guest guest
How do you make yogurt in a dehydrator? Does it just keep a constant temperature but not actually dehydrate the yogurt? I was thinking of getting a dehydrator, and it would be nice if it had a dual purpose! (Although my yogurt turns out just fine in the oven.) I think I can only afford the small size though. The Excalibur is a large box which the trays slice out of. You prepare you innocultaed milk and place it in COVERED containers in the box and set the temperature in the desired range. Close the front, and let it go. Come back in 24-26 hours, remove the containers and put them in the refrigerator. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
I just received my four-tray excalibur in the mail, and right in the manual it says you can make yogurt in it! (I sure hope so, that's one of the main reasons I got it!!!!) If the jars you bought don't fit, just return them, and use smaller jars! Also, I think the 32 ounce canning jars will fit, and if they don't fit with lids and rings, then you can make the yogurt with just the lid on (no screw band). Misha - the dehydrator just keeps a constant temp, as you say, and is also nice because the four tray excalibur uses very little energy to run, so, it's cost effective. Unlike the oven, which might cost a bit to heat for 24 hours.... unless you've got a warm pilot light.... good luck everyone!
