back.

I was told to get the Sugar Free. I would be scared to use that

because you might dump from the sugar. I am having a hard time

finding the sf too. Good luck.

-Carol,

I'm asking because I get my wires off on Wed. and don't want to get my

hopes up to high about eating. I will get bands after the wires come off

Hi,

It depends on the form of dwarfism. There are well

over a thousand different types. It will also depend

whether the type of dwarfism is a skeletal dysplasia

or a growth hormone (or other glandular functioning)

type of dwarfism. I think the best advice I can give

you is to check out www.lpaonline.org. There's a lot

of good information about dwarfism in general on that

site and there is also a list of doctors that maybe

able to provide a definitve diagnosis. Sorry I don't

have a more direct answer!

Make sure she's getting plenty of fluids in every day- that'll help counterract

constipation. You might also try apple juice and other apple products (apple

sauce, sliced apples, etc) or raisins. If nothing's working I'd give your

child's dr a call, sometimes they have other ideas.

Good luck!

Hi Michele-

I tend to give my Maddie (Madilyne) yogurt. She loves it and it can help

get her regular. My pediatrician previously recommended and a good friend

with 20 years as a neo-natal nurse also recommended.

We get the Yo-Baby brand, but any whole milk yogurt is ok. Sometimes the

whole mike can be hard to find in small containers. The Yo-Baby comes in a

pack of 6, 4 oz. containers. She loves the vanilla flavor. My Maddie is

almost 11 months and has been eating yogurt since about 7 months, so should

be ok for your Maddie ;)

My daughter who is now 6 had this starting at around 5 months and we still

battle everyday. She is on Maralax now, but what our ped had us try first was,

lots of fruits and veggies, dried apricots, (which she wouldn't eat along with

the prune juice) apple juice, also bran, she will eat bran flakes, raisen bran,

and all bran, Also make sure they are not getting foods that can constipate,

She does not get any cheese, banana's, etc. She is a very good eater due to

this. Personally the apple juice does nothing for her, she could drink 48oz of

juice in a day and still not go for 6-10 days. You really just have to find the

foods that will work for her.

We are now at the point that they want to do a scope to see if everything is

working the way it should.

Hope some of these tips help you and you have to keep at it, you can't just

try it and it works one day, you have to keep up with it everyday. My parents

are good at letting Brittanie eat cheese on the weekends then we have a problem

all week.

Maddie is terribly constipated due mostly to lack of moving around

with the boots and bar. I've given her prune juice, sugar water,

omitted binding foods like rice and bananas, but she is still having

problems. She just got her hours reduced to 14 per day, but in the

meantime, any suggestions. What foods, other than prunes, do you know

of that " inspires pooping " . i just feel awful for her because she's

straining all the time, and when she does manage to go, it's small and

hard as a rock. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Aleksander had this problem when he was little. Once he was cleared

up, we just kept on giving him prune juice (about 2 ounces ever day,

mixed in with his formula). Pears and pear juice are supposed to work

well too.

We also rubbed his tummy in cicular motions around his belly button,

and helped him move his legs as much as possible while he was in the

shoes. Since he stopped formula, he hasn't really had a problem at

all. If she's using formula, you may want to try switching brands. We

did that when he was close to a year old, and that helped tons too.

There was one other thing that always worked....my dad's bread. He

makes it with molasses. That is the one thing different from the other

bread he ate. We toasted it so it was nice and hard. Made a great

teething biscuit, and helped clear him out. Maybe looking for a bread

with molasses would help...

Poor baby and momma!

When david is stopped up, we do not let him eat cheese. We load him up

on pears, apple juice(pure not watered down as he usually gets),

reduce his milk intake, and add baked beans(which he loves) as well as

green beans. I have heard karo syrup(and i believe its the dark one)

can be given to help this situation but check with Maddi'e ped. My

niece still can have a terrible time with bm's and she is five-when

she was little, they would push her legs to her chest(knees bent) to

kind of help massage/move her bowels.

I have a question, I think I've heard that some have had this problem, but can't remember, when I stand too long, I get this headache that feels like there's pressure building up, and it takes forever to go away.  Anyone ever have this, and what can I do for it??

That is a side effect of Prednisone too, I use to get the shakes when I was on, but I am no longer on it, and have not been on a reg. dose for years, I did get IV steroids last weekend but this shaking thing started before that, in fact we were hoping it

would help, but I can't say it is. MarlaJust one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too is just today:)

Marla, I too get the shakes when I over do it. I cant hold anything in my hands. I wasent sure if its a side effect of the illness or the prednisone. Luckly it passes in a few minutes.

I have been having some pretty strange things happening to me, and wonder if anyone else has ever experienced this too.Sometimes I feel like I am shaking really bad, I've even asked my husband if he sees me shaking

and says No, but it will go on for awhile and just gets worse, I have to lay down, and most the time I fall asleep, when I wake up it's gone.  However, I am having tremors/shaking of the hands when I do to much, and that you can really see, I was helping with the set up of

the Christmas decorations yesterday, moving furniture for the tree, etc.. and then I just started shaking and my family could see it too., My son said go sit down, I did and it settled down. I have it with typing too, at this point I start making mistakes, right now my hands are shaking

the left as always is worse.  Any input from anyone?  Thanks, MarlaJust one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too

Jackie, I agree with Marla. If this is a change or worsening of your symptoms, you need it evaluated. I'm especially concerned with the weight loss. Most of us would like to lose weight, but not this way. When my systemic sarc first hit, I had the extreme fatigue & weight loss, but it was because I was too tired to fix something, eat, and clean up. But I didn't have any nausea or vomiting. You also have to consider that it might be something other than sarc. It would be nice if having sarc made us immune from other illnesses, but alas, it doesn't work that way. So make sure your docs rule out all possible causes. I used to have a primary care doc whose standard answer for any symptoms I reported was (with a big sigh), "Well, you have sarcoidosis." I switched docs.

I have back pain a lot too, and thigh pain, it's the worse, burns like it's on fire inside, and the back ya, I feel it but not sure where, I don't have much almost no knee pain. I get terrible head pain.

I wish I would get one of those energy burst, I can't remember the last I did, use to be the IV steroids would do that, but not even that does anymore. Stay warm, that is what helps the most with my  pain, keeping warm.

MarlaJust one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too is just today:)

I also have a question. I am having severe back and knee pain with fatigue. I am still on prednisone but my dosage has tapered down to 30 mg. I am not sure where this back pain is coming from. But I feel like crap right now. I thought that the prednisone was getting a handle on the sarc. But I think my body is getting used to the prednisone. Has anyone else experience these issues?

Jackie,

Could your medication be causing some GI issues? I know alot of these medications have side affects that cause stomach problems. Please make sure you go to the doctors. Vomiting and weight loss is not a good sign. I will keep you in my prayers. Feel better soon.
