Guest guest
Hi Bob I think I joined the board right after you had surgery and I remember reading a post from you a few months back where you were telling us that you had had a relapse. I am so sorry to hear about that. Can't imagine what going through all of this must be like. Well at least you now know a date for when you can go in and hopefully get it all sorted out. Were you wired the first time around and will you be this time? Just wondering if being wired reduces the chances of a relapse or if it's irrelevant. Has the doctor given you any indication of if your swelling will be worse post-surgery this time around? My guess is that it won't be. Please don't worry too much about what they think at work. The most important thing right now is that you take care of your health. You won't be much of a worker if in pain all the time. And you have every justification in the world to be missing more days of work. I don't think any of the people at work would want to be in your shoes. Remember we're here for you, always ready to give you a big virtual group hug and ready to listen. Sending you lots of positive vibes. Guest guest
Bob, So sorry to hear of your plight. I sure do hope that things go well with your second surgery - and that they stay well! You'll be in our thoughts ... Guest guest
Bob I can't believe that you have to go through this again. I can't imagine having to do this again. I would if there was no other alternative, but I would not be happy about it. Good luck with your 2nd surgery, and I hope that this one turns out the way it is supposed to. > I feel a bit like a stranger as I don't see many familiar names on here > anymore...Just an update,....had my appt. with the surgeon yesterday > regarding my total relapsed surgery which was performed Mar 7,.....Not > much of an explaination ,he said certainly this kind of thing is not > anticipated, happens rarely and likely somthin to do with the jaw > joint.......So I have a week to try to beef up a bit as he is going to > re-do it May23.....I am still pretty much numb lip/chin,...gums are > just startin to wake up,....and I am still very puffy....I can only > imagine what I'm going to look and feel like after I get whacked > again.....At work there going to think I will go to anything length to > get summer holidays ,....anyhow I'm just heading to work now to break > them the news that I going to need another 3 or 4 weeks off,....good > thing I have a ton of sick days saved up... Guest guest
Hi Bob, I'm sorry your surgery was not a success. I can't imagine having to go through this all over again. I wish you lots of strength and best of luck. From what I've read on this side, the second time around the swelling is not as bad. I just had my second surgery, my first was just 3 weeks ago. I had 2 broken screws and an infection. I can tell you the scond time around seems much easier. I just can home from hospital yesterday. I too was still very numb and swollen, numb seems the same but I am much more swollen then I was the first time. I think it's a bit easier the second time because you know just what your getting into. All and all I'm doing well and I do wish you the same luck. We deserve better luck the second time around. Guest guest
Hi Bob, Good luck with your surgery later this month. It will go tons better this second time around. YOu know what to expect and how to handle it and everything will fall into place just fine! I have been having my own fun so you aren't alone. I saw my ortho a couple weeks ago and had one band put on one side to restart all my ortho work. Well, that started pulling the one side of my upper jaw down (It was split to be expanded) and I observed that the upper was still loose... hasn't yet healed solidly. The whole upper jaw moves. The OS said that was normal and told me to ask ortho about getting a band on the other side of my mouth to even out the huge slant to my upper teeth. So, orth then added a heavy band to the other side. That evened everything out, but I noticed that my upper jaw was super loose and practically " wiggly " . If I tried to put my teeth together in a bite position, the upper teeth/jaw totally moved. So I called the OS. He said all the bands were too soon and that the bone needed more time to heal. My clenching and grinding at night definitely don't help the cause, but I can't help that at all. So I took all the bands off and he put me back on a mush diet. Now that one side that was higher than the other seems to no longer be level with out the band holding it even with the other side. I guess it will be healing that way which I am totally unhappy about. SO! All I can do is hope it will finally heal solidly and that the slight angle will be corrected with ortho along with everything else ortho has left to do to fix my bite. IF NOT, my OS said I will need a second surgery to graft bone from my hip to attatch to my very thin and delicate upper jaw. I am hoping and praying that it doesn't come to that. Oh, and I was supposed to be healed by now... I am going to Russia for a month in two weeks... I went to a new PCP last week and he wondered why my blood pressure is so high?!!? HA HA And while I'm at it, I had a mole removed that was almost considered to be malignant melanoma, so I have to have a second procedure and have more tissue around the area cut out just to be sure. Sometimes it feels like my body doesn't want to be my friend. So, the point is that I totally commiserate with you. I guess the best you can do is get it over with and done and behind you as soon as possible.... I log on and don't see many familiar names anymore either... but I haven't been on as much myself because I'm so damned busy these days trying to get ready for my trip AND go to the OS or Ortho every other day it seems.... Take care and I will be thinking about you on the 23rd. Guest guest
Katja I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate movement. I started reading posts when you were around 3 or 4 weeks post op, and I had just assumed that all was going well with you since oyu hadn't posted for a while. I hope that everything straightens out for you. That would be horrible for you to have to go through this again. > > I feel a bit like a stranger as I don't see many familiar names on > here > > anymore...Just an update,....had my appt. with the surgeon > yesterday > > regarding my total relapsed surgery which was performed Mar > 7,.....Not > > much of an explaination ,he said certainly this kind of thing is > not > > anticipated, happens rarely and likely somthin to do with the jaw > > joint.......So I have a week to try to beef up a bit as he is going > to > > re-do it May 23.....I am still pretty much numb lip/chin,...gums > are > > just startin to wake up,....and I am still very puffy....I can only > > imagine what I'm going to look and feel like after I get whacked > > again.....At work there going to think I will go to anything length > to > > get summer holidays ,....anyhow ,I'm just heading to work now to > break > > them the news that I going to need another 3 or 4 weeks > off,....good > > thing I have a ton of sick days saved up!!...... > > > > Have a good weekend everyone > > ttyl > > Bob
Guest guest
Wow, Katja, that is so unfortunate. I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I hope that it gets better, and that you don't have to have that second procedure. Hope everything works out, especially about your trip! Bob, I gues I'm one of the " unfamiliar names " on here, but I was really sorry to hear about your relapse. I hope it works the second time around, and I will definitely be thinking about you on the 23rd. Best wishes to you both, Tarryn > > > I feel a bit like a stranger as I don't see many familiar names > on > > here > > > anymore...Just an update,....had my appt. with the surgeon > > yesterday > > > regarding my total relapsed surgery which was performed Mar > > 7,.....Not > > > much of an explaination ,he said certainly this kind of thing is > > not > > > anticipated, happens rarely and likely somthin to do with the jaw > > > joint.......So I have a week to try to beef up a bit as he is > going > > to > > > re-do it May 23.....I am still pretty much numb lip/chin,...gums > > are > > > just startin to wake up,....and I am still very puffy....I can > only > > > imagine what I'm going to look and feel like after I get whacked > > > again.....At work there going to think I will go to anything > length > > to > > > get summer holidays ,....anyhow ,I'm just heading to work now to > > break > > > them the news that I going to need another 3 or 4 weeks > > off,....good > > > thing I have a ton of sick days saved up!!...... > > > > > > Have a good weekend everyone > > > ttyl > > > Bob
Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for your concern. Now that I am off the bands, my jaw seems to be stiffening a bit. Hopefully by my check up next week thursday, my upper jaw will be good to go. I am anxious to have it heal AND to get going on all the orthodontics I have ahead of me!! Thank you for your well wishes... I haven't posted much lately because this has been such a downer that I haven't had the energy.... Thanks again!
