Guest guest
So I get my splint removed (it is attached to my top jaw) in about a week. For over 4 weeks I have been fantasizing and dreaming about this day. It is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. I have even been planning what exactly I will do as far as eating goes. I swear I am planning to leave the surgeon's office, go to my favorite Italian place (by myself) and order tons of pasta and bread. My question is: Is this dream realistic? Will I be able to eat directly following the appointment? Will it be just gross under my splint where it was all cut and grafted? Can I chew?! I need someone to bring me down a bit just in case my idea of eating in a week is way out there. If I have any more soup, I am going to scream. Boy, what a weight loss program though! Look forward to some advise! Thanks,
Guest guest
, Hey girl... I too have a splint attached to my top jaw. I think I'll be getting mine off in about a week or two. (I should find out for sure Thursday at my next appointment) I don't have a clue about the eating thing, I would like to know about that as well! I also agree with you about the soup and weight thing. How much weight have you lost since you're surgery? I've lost a little over 10. Anyway, I too would like to knoe if my dreams of finally getting to eat real food are as soon as I think. So anybody that knows, PLEASE SHARE! Guest guest
Tara - So we should be nearly about neck and neck as far as the splint thing. My surgery was actually on May 17th, but my OS is removing the splint a few days early because I have a wedding to go to on that Saturday and I begged him! So my splint will be taken out one week from tomorrow (Thurs.). It can't get here soon enough. I'm pretty nervous about it being removed as far as pain and how gross it might be under there. I just hope and pray he tells me I can go and EAT! I'm also hoping I don't go really nuts and gain a bunch of my weight back. I'm petite, so even 5 pounds is noticeable. So far I've lost 16 1/2 pounds. Every little bit counts for me! I just recently had my first baby (he's 9 months old) and so I still have my baby weight in my belly and all over! So the weight loss was a good thing for me. I have heard that anytime after you can't eat real food for a period of time (a long one for us) you have to be careful when you do finally eat. I've heard stories about people going crazy and eating spicy food or just too much food and their bodies aren't adjusted to digest it.....so they get sick and up it all comes! I think some pasta and bread should be okay, although I could really go for some spicy wings or b-b-q or pizza!!!! Food commercials are so cruel!!! Keep me posted on what you hear and your progress so we can compare notes. Thanks, > > So I get my splint removed (it is attached to my top jaw) in about > a > > week. Guest guest
I had my splint removed last Friday after wearing it for 7 weeks. It felt very weird, and I couldn't shut my teeth properly because my muscles still needed to be re-trained for the new bite. Anyway, my six top front teeth were loose because of the bone cuts during surgery. Because it was Friday I was not scheduled to see the ortho for a new archwire until the following Monday. Hence, even though I had no splint I was still on a liquid diet because of those loose teeth. Now I have a new archwire that is keeping everything stable, and I am slowly working on soft foods again. Even donuts are a challenge! So, my advice to you is tohave patience. It'll take time to get back up to a normal diet. Good luck, Willa > > > So I get my splint removed (it is attached to my top jaw) in > about > > a > > > week. For over 4 weeks I have been fantasizing and dreaming > about > > this > > > day.
