Guest guest
Hi Friends, I'm a 2 year post-op (RNY) lurker (mostly) with a question for you all today. If something was stuck in my stoma, could it cause excrutiating pain? Last night I woke up at midnight with unbelievable pain in the middle of my chest. It was very intense, and I could feel it through to my back. I couldn't talk, or catch my breath, or stand up straight. I was panting and sweating. A couple of times it would seem to start to ease, but then return with a vengeance. I tried throwing up thinking the vitamins I had taken before bed were stuck (I didn't drink much water with them, and had 1/2 handful of peanuts on top of them and felt a little " full " when I went to sleep). I tried hot tea, and the meat tenderizer trick. After 1 and 1/2 hours of this, my dh drove me to the ER. Just as we pulled in, the pain passed like magic. I waited in the parking lot, but it didn't come back so I went home (I had a similar attack once before and they never found anything, just kept me there for 6 hours, so I didn't bother going in). I feel fine today. What do you all think? Were the vitamins stuck in my stoma? Could it be gallbladder or an ulcer? I was checked for gall bladder and ulcers a year ago when I had a similar episode, but nothing was found. I think maybe the vitamins were stuck, but would it have hurt that badly? Guest guest
OHHHH Things stuck HURT!!!!!!!!!! You can't swallow saliva even! I have been stuck twice and it has had to be removed via Endoscopy...not a pleasant experience. I never tried the meat tenderizer stuff. They dilated my stoma slightly and I haven't stuck since. Some things come back UP...but never stuck. Guest guest
When I landed in the ER w/esophageal spasm (and this was pre-WLS), they gave me Prevacid -- the same thing many bariatric surgeons prescribe after WLS as a preventative. Worked great.
