I'm scheduled to get my braces on 7/25 (upper) and 8/2 (lower).

Because of my extensive underbite, my two front top teeth are hitting

my two front lower teeth everytime I chew, talk, swallow etc. I've

begun to loose bone mass and that's why I have to have surgery. To

stop my teeth from hitting eachother in the mean time my OD is having

me fitted for a bite plate, I'm assuming it's a lot like retainer only

you can't see it... has any of you had the pleasure of having one? I

should only have if for a couple months but just curious. Thanks.

Hello, Lori - Wow, we will be getting our braces on at about the same

time! I get my spacers and ceramic brackets (top and bottom) on July

26th and get spacers out/bands on/archwires in/o-rings in (top and

bottom) on August 9th. And, I have an underbite too! How long do you

have to be in braces prior to your surgery? Both my OD and OMS think I

will be ready for surgery by next summer. I'm having a BSSO (Mandibular

set-back) and a LeFort I (Maxillary Advancement), plus my Surgeon will

be doing some chin & neck Lipo (he's also a Cosmetic Surgeon). Looks

like we will be " braces-buddies " ! ~~~~~ Diane

Diane - That's so cool to hear. I don't know the technical term for

my surg just that it's lower only, they'll be moving my lower jaw

back. My bite is 6mm off, I was surprised to here that. I had

braces when I was younger, I'm now 23 so my teeth look nice and

straight but my OD says they look good for the bite I have now, his

job is to make them look right for the bite I'm supposed to have. He

is estimating about 16 months which puts my surg about Nov/Dec of

2006. My mouth dropped open when I heard it would be that long, I'm

not looking forward to being in braces again, especially as an

adult. It may be a little earlier but not by much I'm sure. It's so

neat that we have the same timeline, now we can compare notes. -Lori
