Guest guest
i gained 10 pounds prior to surgery and i was pigging out like crazy. Today, day 4 post surgery I've already lost 9 pounds. From what I understand is that most people gain back at least part of what they lost but not necessarily all of it unless they pig out or take protein supplements. Some people who are athletes or are already very skinny can't afford not to put the weight back on. Sara > I have my surgery scheduled on July 13. Guest guest
Hi i lost a stone in weight within four days post op. this was all whilst i was in hospital. It did even out once i got home. however putting weight back on i found quite a slow process. I was on a liquid diet for six weeks and a mushy one for the following 3 months. it did gradually go back on. the key is to keep on top of it, making sure you get pleanty of good foods with vitamins and such. i spoke to the my hospitals nutrisionist as i am also slightly anemic so i had to make sure i was getting enough iron. hope this is of help. kind regards Kat_UK > > I have my surgery scheduled on July 13. Guest guest
Hi Tonya, I agree, you probably shouldn't think of this as a weight-loss plan. You need the calories and nutrition for healing, especially protein and Vitamin C. Of course, it never hurts to eat a nutritious diet, and you could certainly use the time off from work to get some extra exercise. Getting up and walking or whatever is really good for your recovery process. Good luck! Luna
Guest guest
Weight loss was a great motivation for me after the surgery. I was banded shut and was very uncomfortable after the surgery(very swollen,in lots of pain and unable to talk). And what really cheered me up was watching the extra pound come off. I had gained about 10 pounds in the last six months and after 8 days of surgery I am 10 pounds lighter and very happy. I didn't deliberately try to skimp on calories. I just didn't want to drink any thing at all. Now, that I can talk and open my mouth since having the bands cut, I am very happy with the results of the surgery. I am onto blended and soft food. I had lower jaw advancement, and I can't believe what these subtle differences can do your profile. Besides all the compliments I've been getting, I know myself that I look so much better. I have some swelling on the left side of my face, but 5 days ago my face was at the point of bursting. So yess, I am very happy with the outcome already even though those 8 days were really the worst of my life. Guest guest
Maybe I am just eating less because my appetite is off? Thankfully, I'm festively plump.. LOL. I will check out your post now. Guest guest
Nope, I gain. As far back as I can remember caring about my weight, I always lost weight when school started and gained when it ended. Maybe it's the hot Louisiana summers and I'm not as active. Before I was 15, we didn't have cable and I spent the entire summer outside but I can't remember about the weight. Guest guest
I do have a lot less bloating, but have lost more weight. I am now 10 pounds underweight which worries me. Any suggestions?Dip all your veggies in butter and add it to all your soups. Unless you react to butter as well as other dairy? Have you tried making clarified butter or ghee? I don't think too many people react to the pure butter fat. Guest guest
June: It takes a while for your weight to level out. Have you tried adding cheese to everything you eat and healthy fats like butter (or ghee), coconut oil or olive oil? I think once healing takes place, your weight will stabalize. It took me almost 2 years to get back to my healthy weight not I'm having to watch what I eat and exercise a bit more not to gain weight. Luckily though I did not come to SCD underweight and I never lost weight on the diet. Even though I feel a tad bit on the plumpish side, everyone tells me how much better I look than I did when I came to the diet at 125 pounds. I'm now 140. I'm 5'4 " and that weight is at the high end of the spectrum for my height (which doesn't really work, but at least I'm not underweight anymore. At one time I was 114 pounds and very sickly looking. Prednisone and not being on SCD at the time took care of that.) I realize that I started way too soon with the nut flour items. Back to protein, veggies, grape jello. It just doesn't satisfy me. I react to eggs so those are out for now. I also react to dairy. Today I had a banana avocado smoothie. > > I do have a lot less bloating, but have lost more weight. I am now 10 pounds underweight which worries me. Guest guest
My advice would be to not worry about it at all(weight loss)as long as your feeling better your weight is NOT an issuehow you feel is EVERYTHING. (your GI anyway)what you weigh is irrelevant.the image of a fat, robust, wealthy, american has been burned into our collective consciousness as acceptable, and actually healthy(!?)It's NOT!!!best SteveCD 1973SCD 1998
Guest guest
I agree. I started SCD a year ago and lost about 6 pounds. After a couple months or so, it went back on. My assumption was that I had some healing and my malabsorption had improved. Then I slowly gained another 6-8 pounds, which I am not at all happy about, but what with various things I've read emphasizing the importance and healing powers of the good saturated fats, I gritted my teeth and ordered a few pairs of pants a size larger. I'm pretty near the top end of my weight on the chart, too, not at all used to this plump feeling, but OK, I am healthier. When the IBS hit 30 years ago I lost quite a bit of weight, was about 30 pounds less than now, and I really wasn't healthy at all. IBS June: It takes a while for your weight to level out. Guest guest
Misty, What's supposed to be wrong with store-bought ghee? I suppose the usual " can't trust it " ? I've bought some, though, and it is entirely different from butter in color and texture and certainly doesn't SEEM like it has any milk stuff left in it. Or is the problem potential unlisted additions, as usual with store-bought anything? IBS From what I've read, store bought ghee isn't legal. Guest guest
Back in July 2008 we had a ghee discussion and Marilyn warned " There are lots of silly things manufacturers put in foods these days that don't need to be there. Hence the SCD rule of " Make your own, make your own, make your own! " and it doesn't matter if we're talking ghee or tomato sauce! " so I just never bothered getting it premade. Guest guest
Hi Misty, I cant eat cheese since I am allergic to casein. I do eat coconut oil and olive oil as well as avocados. Nothing seems to make a difference. Take care, June > > > > Hi all, > > > > I started on SCD a month ago since I was diagnosed with mastocytic enterocolitis at the beginning of the year.
