Guest guest
You may find the gaining is just muscle building along with some fluid retention. Be careful with salt/sodium. Also -- give it time -- muscle does burn fat but muscle also weighs more than fat. So you may be on a upward hike with your weight now, but once you muscle gets to action you may find the complete opposite. 3/7/2002 552/228 New one year postop Greetings all, my name is Debbi, I live in Dayton Ohio. Today is my one year anniversary of my surgery. I have lost about 80 lbs. I had open rny. It is nice to formally join the group. I have been a lurker for months and I appreciate all the wisdom that has come across the net. I also appreciate the struggles, I have had many. This is a new lifestyle for one thing, so that takes some getting used to. But when one has problems, it becomes a snare too. In a nutshell, I rapidly dump everything I eat, had a gastro emptying test that showed that syndrome. I am not losing fast, did at first, but 5 months into my first year, I plateaued at 196 for 5 months, then lost 10 lbs, and have been now been stuck at 186 for 3 months. I must be the plateau queen. I have been upping my exercise, making sure I drink at least 64+ oz water and at least consume 48g of protein. I started this in the last week, and found I have gained 5 lbs (now 191),, arghhhh, so where is the sanity in all this? So, here I am, one year postop today, and gaining just by increasing exercise water and protein,,,,am I doing something wrong? I do so appreciate finally being able to post and be an active member of this group. Have a great day all. Debbi in Ohio open rny 11/4/02 271/191/145? Guest guest
Hi Debbi and welcome to the group! In addition to what said, you may want to consider upping your protein intake by supplementing with a shake or two a day. You may find that the additional protein along with the increased exercise, will eventually get the scales moving again. When you say you dump everything, what does that mean? Throw up? And if so, what can they do for you? I would think that if you do so, the problem may be lack of nutrition, calories, and the body thinking starvation mode and hoarding the fat?
