I'm just curious if anyone knows which procedure he had????<<< Sue, here is one article I found: " American Idol " judge Randy is recovering from gastric bypass surgery undertaken to lose weight, Inside Edition reports exclusively, Thursday, July 17. Sources told Inside Edition, 46-year- old underwent the surgery a week ago at Southern California's Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity. He had a form of gastric by-pass called the Fobi Pouch. " The patients who undergo this kind of procedure are usually morbidly obese, " surgeon Basil Felahy told Inside Edition. Inside Edition went into the operating room at the Center with Felahy, who performed the same procedure on another patient and explained how this type of surgery works: " By giving him a small pouch which is going to be his stomach from now on, his main stomach and bowel attached to it is bypassed. " Patients are left with a tiny stomach so they feel full after just a small amount of food. " You feel full when your stomach is stretched, the wall is stretched, and that's what they get, because the pouch is small, " Dr. Felahy told Inside Edition. Most patients live on a diet of pureed food for several weeks after the surgery. In March, told " People " magazine he was concerned about his weight. He said he lost 20 pounds by eating smaller portions and working out three times a week. 's weight has been raised from time to time on " American Idol. " He once even confronted a contestant over his weight, telling him: " You take that home and work on it and you come back and show me that you've lost probably 100 pounds and get your look together. " Every week, 1,200 overweight Americans have their stomachs stapled. Gastric by-pass surgery has become so popular among dieters that some people are actually trying to gain weight to qualify, Inside Edition reports. Singer Carnie , weatherman Al Roker and Sharon Osbourne have all had gastric bypass surgery as well.
