Guest guest
Does cranial sacral therapy with a chiropractor work? I have 3 month old twins and we are just starting the process. Currently we are doing the physical therapy route, but I'm curious if added chiropractic care would speed the process? Guest guest
this is the million dollar question. Some will tell you " yes " , others " no " . There aren't good documented studies for CST and plagio. Are you banding? I would consider CST along with banding, but not instead of banding. I have to admit I am a skeptic and have never tried it. If you are not banding yet, you'll want to make sure you're repositioning to keep the babies off their flat spots. You can find repo tips in the files section. -christine sydney, 4 yrs, starband grad > > Does cranial sacral therapy with a chiropractor work? Guest guest
Based upon our experiences, I would say that it definately has helped. With a 3-month old, I would definately try this route first. In my research about chiro, I found some articles in chiro journals that documented improvement with tort and plagio. I didn't find anything for plagio alone or brachy alone. If you are doing PT, then I assume that tort is present and you could definately benefit. The CST was recommended to us by our doctor so that's why we started it at 14 months. The doctor wasn't so sure about the chiro, but I did it anyway based upon what I'd heard from the older plagio group and what I'd read in the journals. Even though I found no articles on plagio alone or brachy alone, I do feel that we have gotten visual improvement with both CST and chiro after the helmet was removed. I do have hand measurements that show improvement, but we haven't had another computer scan.. If I were to do it all again, I would have done CST and Chiro starting at 2.5 months when I first noticed the flat head. I would have also started the process with the specialists so that I could get starting measurements. At about 4 months, I would have gone back for follow up measurements to see if there was enough improvement and to judge whether to pursue a helmet. I definately would not have waited longer than 6 months to start the helmet. That's what I would have done if I knew then what I know now. Unfortunately, I didn't know any of this and so we didn't get any treatment until 14 months. Still, 's head is only mild these days and is not noticeable to most people so I feel that I got good correction for starting so late. I do credit the CST and chiro for helping with this process. I also credit the chiro for curing her reflux. She took her last dose of Prevacid in January and is doing great. Because of this, we continue with the chiro once a week for now. At some point, we will go less frequently, but we aren't quite there yet. Her spine needs to start holding between appointments before we reduce the frequency. We are weaning away from the CST because her therapist doesn't think that she needs it anymore. I think we'll just have one last appointment in February. I may go somewhere for a second opinion on this, but I haven't decided yet. , mom to , 28 months STARband grad May 2009 Chiro and CST land Re:Update on Alyssa & Does cranial sacral therapy with a chiropractor work? Guest guest
For Alyssa we have done CST at the same time as banding so it is hard to know if it has helped or not - but we have had great improvement since we started it. I figure that it isn't going to hurt. 's head is looking great - I should get her measured to see if it has improved with CST. There are also some physical therapists that are experienced with CST. If possible I would try and find someone with experience treating plagiocephaly or at least experience with infants. We found our chirp through our local Moms group and she has previous experience treating plagiocephaly. > > Does cranial sacral therapy with a chiropractor work? Guest guest
, I actually did a search and found some studies for chiro on plagio in chiropractic journals. My cranial doctor also claims there there is research that backs up the CST. I didn't ask her for the references, but I trust her. Re:Update on Alyssa & this is the million dollar question.
