Guest guest
: I was taking oral iron, Carbonyl and Niferex since mys surgery and my iron counts progressively went down in the toilet until I hit just under 9. I started iron infusions a little over a month ago. I am scheduled for 23 infusions and have just finished # 13. My iron is currenlty up to 11.4 and I feel like a million bucks. Hematologist said that once I get to where I am supposed to be I can start taking the Niferex and come to see him once a month for an infusion so I will hopefully never get that low again. Apparently I am not absorbing the iron in pill form at all, so he will check my counts and see if the oral iron is doing any good or I should go in once or twice a month for an infusion. Also took my docs well over a year to finally throw in the towel with the blood count dropping and send me to a hematologist. Was recenlty diagnosed with acute sensory neural hearing loss and the ENT thinks, just thinks, the anemia may have contributed to this problem. After two weeks on Prednisone I did not get any of my hearing back. Don't let the anemia go on for too long before doing something about it. I felt like crap for over a year, dragging my butt and just too damn tired to do anything. Felt like I was 378 lbs. all over again. Just keep on top of it. Hope you feel better soon. Guest guest
The most absorbable form of iron is iron amino acid chelate because the molecules are small enough to be absorbed without being broken down by digestive action. You can buy the iron by itself at http://www.vitacost.com/store/products/productdescription.cfm?SKUNumber=03398401\ 2509 Both VistaVitamins, http://www.vistavitamins.com and Bariatric Supplement Systems, http://www.bariatricsupplementsystem.com use iron amino acid chelates as their supplement form.
