Guest guest
On my last 2 sets of labs, my ALT was elevated. After the first time, I started taking Milk Thistle. The doctor decided to do a liver profile and on that both the ALT and AST were elevated - not alarmingly so but a fair amount. I haven't had any symtoms of liver problems at all - no jaundice, pain, nausea - nothing. I am taking Soma and thought that might be the cause, as I haven't even been taking Tylenol since the first test came back elevated. No indication that the Soma might be the cause. So I looked up the tests themselves at labs online and this is what I found: ALT - A shot or injection of medicine into the muscle tissue, or strenuous exercise, may increase ALT levels. AST - A shot or injection of medicine into muscle tissue, or even strenuous exercise, may increase AST levels. I have an IM B12 shot every two weeks and have been having an iron injection every week for about 10 weeks now. I also exercise very strenously at the Y. I'm thinking that this might possibly be the cause, since nothing else seems to be amiss. Certainly I will continue to take the Milk Thistle and monitor it closely, but this made me feel a little better about the mystery. So I thought I would share the info for anyone else who has been puzzled. Sheri In Sunny Florida
