Guest guest
Totally OT, but this story illustrates the buggers that birds are. My dad and JJ hated each other (JJ hated all men). My dad had a bad habit of laying things down next to his cage (sunglasses, wristwatches, etc.), and sneaky JJ would somehow pull them through the bars, and completely dismantled them. Nothing was broken, just every last screw and pin removed. Watching my father sift through the bottom of the cage looking for all the pieces was pretty funny!LOL Holly this is totally OT, but I SO want a bird now!! That's the funniest thing I've heard all week! Guest guest
Birds are a blast! I've had them all my life, much to my parents chagrin. They can be a tremendous amount of work, but I've gotten off pretty easy on that account. My Nikko is an African Grey, and they usually are high maintenance birds. She's pretty low key though, and doesn't require as much as most. Now if I can just get her to eat SCD ;-). Her diet is much improved since I started (no more sugar cookies and Cheez-its), but she still prefers things like oatmeal to vegetables (especially yucky green ones). At least she's on board with almonds! Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > > Totally OT, but this story illustrates the buggers that birds are. > > My dad and JJ hated each other (JJ hated all men). Guest guest
Holly, I never knew pet birds could be so much fun!! My uncle was a bird watcher and we would love to go with him. I'm really happy you shared this with the group it made me giggle and my heart got warm. How cool, you have been transitioning the diet too. Do you find that her health has improved at all? Did she have any issues? Jodi > > > > > Totally OT, but this story illustrates the buggers that birds are. > > > My dad and JJ hated each other (JJ hated all men). Guest guest
Hi Jodi, Nikko is a healthy bird, and still pretty young (around 9 or so). Transitioning her diet is more of a preventative measure, so that she'll be able to grow old with me :-). I have a long ways to go though. She eats okay for the most part, but I need to figure out how to get more veggies in her. Right now I have to put butter on everything, which her vet would probably freak out about! I just discovered that she really likes kabocha squash. It's super soft and smooth, which is right up her alley. She is no raw foodist, she even wants her banana warmed up! Here are 2 pictures of my " baby " girl: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/spookyhurst/Nikko/nikko44.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/spookyhurst/Nikko/NikkoBoost.jpg (that's not my SCD illegal Boost!) Guest guest
Holly, Your bird is absolutely beautiful! OMG. If it's work getting our humanoid arses on the diet I can't imagine how it works for pets. LOL. I loved seeing the pic of your bird.. awesome!
