Hi everyone! I just passed my one-year anniversary of the surgery,

so I understand that I can now officially join this group.

My name is May, and I live in Grinnell, Iowa. I usually post

as ' in Grinnell'. Dr. Coster performed my surgery on

9/20/02. At that time I weighed 237 pounds, and was having lots of

diabetes problems and many associated problems because of the

diabetes. I currently weigh 152 and am scheduled for a tummy tuck on

October 17, 2003, with Dr. Coster. I haven't made my original goal

of 130 yet, unfortunately, but hope to get closer some day.

Otherwise, I feel fantastic. I no longer experience any problems

with diabetes or the associated illnesses. I take no medications at

all...just my vitamins. I have enough extra energy that I work a

full-time job in computers at Grinnell College and a part-time job as

a cashier at HyVee. I also love LIFE now, compared to before when I

did only what I had to do to exist.

I recently joined the Elks Lodge here in Grinnell, of which I am one

of 8 female members and many male members. I am one of the co-

leaders of the Surgical Associates WLS group. I also participate in

the Grinnell Community Band and Grinnell College Concert Band. All

these changes would never have taken place in my life if it weren't

for the surgery giving me a life back.

I am married to a man named Eugene (who is also overweight) and I

have two children from a previous marriage. My daughter is 20 and is

a Junior at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. My son is 17 and is

a Junior in High School in Grinnell. We live on a farm, and have

several cows, 3 dogs and a horse. My life is full, and I LOVE IT

NOW. Thank God for this surgery!

Well, that's about enough for my story. If you have any questions,

let me know.
