Guest guest
I just wanted to run something by you guys. I keep seeing posts, mostly on Obesityhelp.com about people who've dropped or lacked coverage being denied health inusrance because they've had WLS. In NJ, there's a law that companies must offer insurance to anyone, regardless of pre-existing conditions or prior health problems. You will pay a high price for it, but they can not deny you. So, my question is, is this any different than companies denying coverage to those who have previously had cancer or any other disease? Can these states deny coverage to those people, too? If not, can't people sue or file complaints with either their State Dept. of Insurance or go to the Federal level? If their WLS was covered by insurance, then it was deemed medically necessary, and was, therefore, considered a disease. IMO, the state of health insurance in this country is a disgrace. I understand and don't necessarily disagree with making people wait a year due to pre-existing conditions, but denying coverage because of this or prior health problems is practically assuring even more serious health consequences and financial ruin to those who have already suffered serious illnesses in the past. Do these people have any recourse, especially in the short term? in NJ
