Guest guest
Hi, I don't have diarrhea, only gas and bloating that don't seem to go away. I'm going through a rough patch, with now even new symptoms, stomach pains and cramps the past 3 days...well I think it may be a die-off thing from eating too much coconut oil, since other die off symptoms are intense. Anyways, I wanted to try a new probiotic since I had been doing the SCDophilus for 3 months. Want to do coconut milk yogurt as well, but wondering if the s. boulardii is worth a try....i have minor reactions to high sugar foods from time to time, so I think there is some kind of yeast thing going on. But I know its mainly for diarrhea...I only have constipation to go along with the gas and bloating. Thanks for any input, Ellen SCD 3+ months
Guest guest
Thanks Marilyn, oh how I dream for things to be normalized again...you say that S. boulardii does something different than SCD Yogurt...does that mean that one can take the probiotic capsule or yogurt at the same time as the s. boulardii? ...or should you only do one at a time for a couple weeks and then switch?how much of the capsule should i start out with? and should it be on an empty stomach or full? Thanks,EllenTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wed, July 28, 2010 4:09:10 PMSubject: Re: S. boulardii At 02:43 PM 7/28/2010, you wrote: I don't have diarrhea, only gas and bloating that don't seem to go away. Ellen, S. boulardii pretty well eats candida, and, so far as I've read, some of the other yeasts for lunch. Being a friendly yeast, it doesn't over grow, but it does chase the ones who do out of there. What you're aiming to do is NORMALIZE your gut, since if your normalize the gut, both constipation and diarrhea will clear up. They're opposite ends of the same spectrum. S. boulardii solves different issues than our SCD yogurt. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

How much yogurt are you able to tolerate at this time? <g> I'm pretty much a yogurt fiend.... and I had been eating yogurt regularly for most of my time on SCD. (Well, I admit, I didn't have nearly as much as I wanted in the eight months or so after Hurricane Katrina. Power wasn't stable enough to ferment for 24 hours!). I tend towards what I now called " mushy constipation. " (Sorry if this is TMI.) Basically, the stool itself is very soft, and inclined to cause problems at odd moments, usually when I'm not near a restroom. But, when I get into one, a sit down, I can't actually go. I sit and sit and sit and sit and nothing happens. Boulardii did two things for me: it firmed up my stool, AND made my system more able to eliminate. I legitimately do not know how it will work with constipation -- I mean, firming up the stool isn't something you need, but ease of elimination sure is! I know that I had some pretty serious die-off with the boulardii... I typically start with a normal dose of probiotics, because with my weight, that's a " low dose. " Wow, was that a mistake for me! I would start, probably, with no more than half a capsule. I usually take mine with some water about a half hour before breakfast, and again about a half hour before dinner time. However, I've occasionally taken it with dinner. Just don't take with enzymes if you use them. As always, keep a food and response diary to see what gives. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
When I pull it my daughter always regresses, so we have been doing it for 6 months plus. It does concern me, but the alternative concerns me more. She has yeast and clostridia, and S. boullardi helps more than anything else I have tried. I just thought that that was what people mainly use it for, since it 'eats candida for lunch.'
