I did just fine. It was a bit rough getting into the car to leave that morning, but I slept the entire way home. Shuffled to the easy chair, got my feet propped up (you will be shaped like an " L " for several days) and promptly fell back asleep. I pretty much slept for the next 24 hours -- awake for 30 minutes or so, then head would nod and I'd be back out like a light for quite a while -- repeated over and over and over. My pain was manageable -- what hurt almost the most was my back from walking hunched over. I had prepacked several water bottles with protein mix so when it was time, hubby just poured in ice water and handed me a bottle to shake and drink -- it worked great! Guest guest
I spent 23 hours in the hospital, and then home. My husband ended up spending the night because of some bleeding issues. I did not need anyone to take care of me once I got home. I spent most of the first week in the recliner (slept there too). It was painful and uncomfortable, but certainly not unbearable. I was on pain meds pretty heavily the first week so definitely no driving. I started driving at about Day 8 or 9, once the meds were out of my system. The drains were a nuisance and recovery speeded way up for me once they were gone. I did not feel like exercising at all for a good two weeks, and then did walking. Went back to work at 3 weeks without a problem. I could have gone back at two weeks, though. Is someone going to have to look after me for a few days or will I be okay? How soon can I realistically go back to work? What about driving? Truthfully I never really got the chance to ask the doctors any of these questions. I was too preoccupied with insurance questions. How soon will I be able to start exercising? Am I going to be stapled again? They also said this will be done as an outpatient for 23 hours. Is this normal?
