Guest guest
I also had a VP shunt placed in my head due to CSF build up. Does anyone have any information or insight on this?
Guest guest
La, I don't know what the "VP" stands for, but we do have a number of members who've had shunts placed. Hopefully, we'll hear from some of them. You can also check the archives; try searching under shunts, meningitis, hydrocephaly, etc. Darlene has been working on cleaning up the archives--deleting the fluff & making sure that the subject matches the content of the message. That's why it's important to change the subject line when the topic changes. "Someone" may post about Thanksgiving dinner using the subject line "Burp." By the time several people have replied, the message may be about Remicade, or skin lesions. So I encourage everyone to try to remember to change the subject when indicated. It will make Darlene's task (which she has been plugging away at voluntarily through severe illnesses, personal & family crises) much easier, and of course, make searching for pertinent messages easier for all of us. Guest guest
I hope this helps. This is the definition of VP shunt: Ventriculoperitoneal shunting is surgery to relieve increased pressure inside the skull due to excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on the brain (hydrocephalus). If anyone wants it explained in more detail just let me know. A side note. Anyone who pays their own disability insurance. DO NOT PAY IT OUT OF YOUR BUSINESS ACCOUNT OR TAKE IT OFF YOUR INCOME TAX AS AN EXPENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do this your disability will be taxed as long as you collect it. If you pay it out of your personal account and don't take it off of your taxes then it becomes tax free as long as you collect it! Guest guest
Thanks, Mitch. Having spent all but a year or so of my nursing career working in OB, I didn't run across many women with shunts. I knew that the fluid was directed into the abdomen, but I guess I never actually heard the term. Or there's a good chance that I did hear it & have just forgotten!
