Guest guest
Again, it all depends. For me, ripe bananas and apple and pear sauces are among my rock-bottom I-can-eat-them-on-my-worst-days foods. But others sure have troubles. You really won't know until you try them, I fear. When you do decide to try bananas make sure they are really nice and ripe. Very much brown-spotted. I'm on day 3 of the diet (if I hadn't eaten a piece of rye toast day one I would be on day 4) and I have to say I'm doing ALOT better even though I'm tapering down the prednisone. Still having diarrhea but not as much gurggling sounds. I think it's important not to eat too much. After day 5 I'm going to go zuccini and then spinach (pureed). What veggies does anyone suggest next? I have noticed that some of books suggest ripe banana or pears pureed but I think it's better to stay away from that until the diarrhea is gone. Thoughts anyone?
Guest guest
After the intro diet, I ate a lot of peeled sauted zucchini, banana/egg " pancakes " , cooked pear sauce, and chicken breast pieces cooked with a little honey and salt. I just discovered a super delicious idea for the early stages though: Squash Pie with a Pear Crust. I just used a basic pumpkin pie recipe and substituted thinly sliced pears for the crust, subbed homemade yogurt for the condensed milk, subbed honey for the sugar, and it came out awesome. I used acron squash, and have a butternut squash lined out to do it again. The basic recipe will also include eggs, butter & cinanmon. I will tell you the thinly sliced pear fooled me - had the same texture as a yummy smooth typical pie crust. Squash Pie with a Pear Crust 2+ cups cooked squash (butternut or acorn work great) 2 tablespoons melted butter 1/4 cup honey 1/2 cup homemade yogurt (can be omitted) 3 eggs 2 thinly sliced peeled pears (or apples) 1 tsp cinnamon 2 tsp vanilla dash salt Slice squash in half and bake at 350* for up to one hour. Spoon squash away from peel, and puree in food processor. Arrange a layer of thinly sliced pears or apples in a buttered pie dish. Mix together all other ingredients, pour over crust. Bake at 350* for 40 minutes, or until it sets. *You can always simplfy it by leaving out the yogurt, cinnamon, and vanilla until you know you can tolerate them too. I was able to tolerate yogurt one week into the diet. When I first started, I could tell my guts felt raw and needed some serious probiotics, and after being on the diet for one week that yogurt really did the trick and made my insides feel so much better. Some folks have to wait a lot longer though. Good Luck! SCD 9 Weeks > > Again, it all depends.
